As well some of these images aren't even spliced they're just straight up rotated and then traced 1 for 1. That is not referencing, that is TRACING. They have admitted to this already, so you're arguing a point which has already been agreed upon by the people in question

It is factually, by definition not "referencing" nor would it be accepted as such in any other field. In a professional job setting you could get fired for this. Even if the intention was to reference, splicing and then tracing over is still going over the original artist's lines. It's still tracing
