For Brits, it’s worth noting that there have already been rumblings about age-gating *Wikipedia*, because it has content that is “inappropriate” for minors. So it’s hardly hyperbolic to suggest there is a slippery slope. We just haven’t yet stepped fully on to it.

True. WASD + mouse control would be an example of that. It wasn't the default for Quake when it shipped as you had to type something into the console to enable it.

That plays with a slow frame rate on my machine.

The irony is you won't get the job if you're an expert at programming in Commodore 64 BASIC.

He's cheating. @0xc0de.bsky.social is crouched under the table moving the monitor up and down while the ball stays perfectly still! 8-D

Who remembers 80s/90s video gaming magazines? And do you miss them? 🎮🕹️ ... Having a great time going through this stack of vintage ZZap!64 magazines that my dad bought for me, knowing my retro obsession! 😄 ... Which ones did you buy back in the day, C&VG, Nintendo Power or something else? (cont...)

Back when I was playing a lot of DOS games, I'd quite often have a shooter and an RTS on the go at the same time. Unreal / C&C for example. It's a good way to live.

There's a specific joy in powering on a 44-year-old computer and seeing that inverse K cursor blinking at you. It doesn't want your password. It doesn't need an update. It just wants you to type something. Anything. Go on.

I hope you get a free copy for all of the promotion that you've given the series over the years?

Yeah, I got a book by one of the Stock Aitken Waterman engineers and worked my way through the songs thanks to YouTube. Sure enough, most of it was the musical equivalent of shovelware. But a few hits too.

It's basically the 8 bit Amiga. It has reasonable base specs, but it's a box of tricks for the talented programmer. Personally, I prefer the look of the C64 for most things though.

Shadow of the Beast version 1. Or, you could have changed the main sprite into a spaceship for some Scramble style action. You make it sound like this was your last little go at BBC Micro rather than NES dev? A financially rational decision by that point!

Sad news. I bet the iPlayer server is going to be running red hot tonight. Red Dwarf is on the godly list of about five of my favourite programs. I used to fantasise about plucking up the courage to contact him so that we could work on a Red Dwarf prequel together. #reddwarf #seeyalaytaallagata

Mini break over, back home now....

Just testing some stuff with a non-zero value in the clear screen procedure.... Highlighted a few issues, one with the DUCK sprite where I was wiping a bit too much than was necessary !

Pretty-much fixed, saved some more cycles !
