🇺🇸 Reporter: You'll concede this is war?
Markwayne Mullin: We haven't declared war. They declared war on us.
Reporter: The president called it war and Secretary Hegseth called it war.
Reporter: When you walked up just now, you called it war.
Mullin: Okay. That was a misspoke.

Naming the policeman Officer X, Welles addressed him directly. "Wash your hands, Officer X. Wash them well. Scrub and scour, you won't blot out the blood of a blinded war veteran," Welles said. "Go on, suckle your anonymous moment while it lasts. You're going to be uncovered. We will blast out your name! We'll give the world your given name, Officer X. Yes, and your so-called Christian name. It's going to rise out of the filthy deep like the dead thing it is."
When Tom Homan, Trump and other Republicans defend the masking of ICE agents, I can't help but think of Orson Welles announcing on his radio show his intention of identifying the South Carolina police officer who violently attacked and blinded the uniformed Black veteran Isaac Woodard in 1946.

DHS said that the woman CBP shot in the chest in Portland was “involved” in a gang shooting.
Her ~involvement~ was that suspected gang members sexually assaulted and robbed her.

This was murder. Pretti did not initiate the confrontation. He didn’t strike them. He didn’t brandish his gun. They tackled him, beat him, disarmed him, and shot him.

This is such an important point. This family tried to follow the rules.
The distinction is going to get more important when they start mass deporting the people whose TPS status Trump revoked. They’ll call them “illegal” too, even though they were here legally until Trump yanked the rug.
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.
It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.
This opens up wider questions about how far the UK and Canada in the 5 eyes intel sharing framework as well as other former allies of the United States can still provide the Americans with any sensitive intelligence information at all
Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs & © @WHAAsstSecty Detaining Nicaraguans for "liking" posts online shows how paranoid the illegitimate Murillo and Ortega regime is. We demand the unconditional release of all political prisoners— no exceptions, no house arrest, no new arrests. Freedom means ending the regime's cycle of repression. #LibertadYa 11:23 AM • Jan 17, 2026 • 91.6K Views
Plaintiffs Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation, along with Jane Doe and John Doe, noncitizen students holding F-1 visas issued by the United States, filed an amended complaint alleging claims under the First and Fifth Amendments against Marco Rubio, in his official capacity as Secretary of State, and Kristi Noem, in her official capacity as Secretary of Homeland Security (together, the "Government"). First Am. Compl., ECF No. 65 ("FAC"). Jane Doe and John Doe allege that since March 2025, the Government has changed its immigration policy and pattern of enforcement, namely arresting, detaining, and deporting students with F-1 visas when those students voice opinions that express support or empathy for Palestinian people or are critical of Israel's actions regarding Palestine or the conflict in Gaza. Because Jane Doe and John Doe fear that the Government will revoke their visas and deport them for expressing views that the Government may now deem "anti-American or anti-Israel," Jane Doe and John Doe have self-censored. FAC I2. They have stopped exercising their First Amendment rights when it comes to the subject of Israel and Palestine, including publishing commentary online. They have also changed their social media practices and have avoided wearing clothing that indicates a pro-Palestinian view. Similarly, Stanford Daily Publishing ("Stanford Daily"), the parent company of campus
newspaper The Stanford Daily, fears for its student journalists. Noncitizen student-journalists who hold valid F-1 visas - and are therefore lawfully present in the United States - are asking Stanford Daily to take down their previously published articles about Israel and Palestine. And although they have already expended considerable effort investigating and writing new articles about the Israel-Palestine conflict, noncitizen student-journalists are choosing not to publish those articles because they are afraid the Government will revoke their visas and deport them. In their amended complaint, Plaintiffs point to the news of Mahmoud Khalil, Rümeysa Öztürk, Mohsen Mahdawi, and other students lawfully in the United States who expressed opinions about Israel and Palestine; the Government then arrested, detained, and transferred those students to immigration jails. Plaintiffs quote public statements by Secretary of State Rubio and the President, including comments he made prior to being elected, warning noncitizens that they will be deported if they express similar views. Plaintiffs argue that the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act ("INA") (8 U.S.C. §§ 1182(a)(3)(C)(iii), 1227(a)(4)(C)(i) and § 1201(i)) that the Government relies on for its authority to cancel student visas and initiate deportation proceedings, are facially unconstitutional. Plaintiffs bring eight claims under the First and Fifth Amendments for declaratory and injunctive relief. See FAC. The Government now moves to dismiss Plaintiffs' complaint solely for lack of standing. Mot. to Dismiss, ECF No. 66. The matter is fully briefed, and the Court held a hearing on January 6, 2026. ECF Nos. 66, 67, and 68. The Court DENIES the Government's motion to dismiss.
The State Dep't Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs today posted that detaining people "for 'liking' posts online shows how paranoid [an] illegitimate" regime is, referring to "political prisoners."
On Friday, a fed'l judge refused to dismiss a lawsuit over State taking similar actions in the U.S.

what you clearly see, CLEARLY, is a driver who is spooked by the agents grabbing her door, takes steps to drive away, and is immediately shot as moves her vehicle *away* from the agents.
Although Machado ultimately said she was dedicating the award to Trump, her acceptance of the prize was an “ultimate sin,” said one of the people. “If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” this person said.
WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.
“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.
