Halloween? Gabs nicht, kannten wir nur ausm TV. Wir haben damals Zuckerrüben vom Feld geklaut, Rübengeister draus geschnitzt & sind von Haus zu Haus gezogen, weil es Tradition meines Vaters & seiner Kumpels von klein an war & weil es bei uns nicht einmal echte Kürbisse gab – aß man einfach nicht 👻😄
I only discovered today that there was a tradition of carving "root ghosts" at Halloween in some parts of Germany. I had never heard of it before. The root vegetable of choice for this was the sugar beet.
