🕊️ today is my birthday! which means it's also my character Mu's birthday, n every year I illustrate him to celebrate us both.

these pieces often reflect my personal life, and this one is no different. so much grieving is laid behind me, and I'm glad to celebrate that, alongside my birthday 🤍

oh that's not boring at all, water deer are gorgeous! I'm in a similar camp to your sentiments though, for all the cool skulls I love, my favorite is a very basic "Wolf? Fox? HELL YEAH." lol

they sure do! mustelids in general have such fascinating skulls, but especially the smaller ones like least weasels and stoats. Such a long, alien-looking skull... and then you have this lil guy

mustelid skulls are so cool! I have a mink, as well. Mink skull is a bit stubbier than the smaller mustelids, but still such a cool shape (and the jaw's really neat how it locks into the hinge so tightly!)

my partner is a bio professor so any time they get a duplicate skull I get a present lol

It is still, to this day, my all time favorite game box art and especially all time favorite (I'd say best, at least IMO) horror box art.

programs like tv paint (amongst others like it!) and blender (same) are a godsend, internet and crowd funding and passion all help connect and fuel. I am just so tired of the insular little boys' clubs and big out of touch money men believing they are the keepers or creativity.

That extreme stagnation really started with the fiasco over Brave/Brenda Chapman imo. I liked Turning Red and Coco a lot, but those have really been the only two that stood out to me since the decline started.

I have a lot of hope/belief that modern tools will allow indie a chance to flourish

agreed! I"ve said it before and i'll say it again, the box art for the 11th Hour game changed my brain chemistry when I was a wee lil middle schooler. I've been living my life by it ever since haha

If you ever wonder where the textures I use in my art comes from, here's the answer: it's all home grown lol my camera sucks ass so I'm always hesitant to offer the textures I take and use up as photos, but I personally do like the grainy look. Maybe I'll offer them as a pack sometime

panel 1 and 8 skulls/skellies are not real (very obvious for 8), the others are all real. It's a turkey skull, deer jaw, least weasel (I believe? possibly a young stoat), and a red fox, all in order

the petals are all droppings from my impatiens, soil is my oxalis planter

Took some texture/ref photos of my lil skellies, dried flora and planters to use in my art and just really liked how they looked in the photo gallery grid

SO glad you were warned to stay away! I wish I could go back in time and warn myself, but maybe having had the experience was better for the lesson learned. The "funniest" part is while I was there we watched the only other long-time female story artist quit and leave. Just, good lord.

Hey, we can't help where our inspiration comes from... and great art can come from anyone or anything, good and bad. It's more than fine to be inspired by them, carry that inspiration forward and do something better with it! I think we can all make art for and by everyone if we keep that desire. 💪
