Described as "Flemish, 19th c.", this one is close to David Teniers (perhaps by someone like Victor Mahu). Est. 1500β¬, would be high for a 19th c. version, but I think this one is worth more. Certainly a lot better than most Teniers copies or -inspired works. www.interencheres.com/art-decorati...

Muller sale, 1926, lot 734: Ferdinand Bol, "Portrait of a young woman", signed, panel, 34*26cm, Fl2400. Would like to see this one in colour, as it looks a bit "off" in B&W. Haven't found any trace of it though...

Yes, i don't know if they are supposed to be the same person with wildly varying dates, or family? Also found a "Hans" (i.e. Johannes) from same period, but seems to be a goldsmith. Van Merle(n) often also spelled Van Maerle.

Daily photo from my visit to the Sinebrychoff museum in Helsinki: moving away from the 17th c. Low Countries, we find the Goodhart Master, a c. 1320 follower of Duccio, with "Madonna and Child enthroned". Without the later frame, as seen on the museum site! www.kansallisgalleria.fi/en/object/48...

Old engravings claim that the theme (or the earliest depiction we know of) is based on a Pieter Breugel the Elder painting (more likely Jan Brueghel though). 17th c. versions by the Van Kessels. www.mskgent.be/en/collectio... auctionaugur.blogspot.com/2019/11/cats...

Daily picture from the Sinebrychoff museum in Helsinki. I normally post my own photo's, no matter the quality, but this one turned out too poor, so here's one from the museum website instead. Cornelis Van der Voort, "Portrait of a Young Woman", ca. 1620. www.kansallisgalleria.fi/en/object/61...

Lost no more!
A private individual recently contacted Museum PlantinβMoretus after spotting our historical library stamp in a book bought at a flea market. Photos showed two clear impressions of our round stamp on the title page.

Sometimes you again realise how few 16th c. books really have survived. "Roman de Regnart", Tenessax, prose version. 5 different editions known (bestseller!), with just 8 known surviving copies: 1516 (1), 1528 (none), 1534 (4), 1550 (2), and 1551(1). www.interencheres.com/art-decorati...

I tend to look at the art and take a photo if I like it, but to forget to read all the information (depending on how much time I have as well of course). Thank you for all the background!

not in the provenance, but probably the same; the dimensions are identical and the monogram is present, but the poor RKD image shows a much higher picture than the 53*41 give ). All a bit strange, but at just 200Fl this may have been one of the best buys at that auction.
