I’m about to do a reread after fifty years. When I read it in college, it was my introduction to magic realism and I was blown away. It will be interesting to see my reaction now

I’m reading Blood Child by Octavia Butler which is an anthology. After each story or essay, she does an afterword that explains how she came to write the story. It’s the best Butler I’ve read

Who else has read Alchemised by SenLinYu? I was riveted by this story and can hardly believe it was a debut novel. Amazing accomplishment!

I just finished A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing today by Eimear McBride and I’m gutted. Written in stream of consciousness format, it tells the story of an Irish girl’s life. It won the Woman’s Prize for Literature. I also loved her novel, The Lesser Bohemians, and can’t wait to read her new novel

I agree about challenging our genre boundaries. I’m only about a third done with this one. I’m interested to see how she wraps things up

Pub Talk with Alex Craig Meet the new publisher at Australia’s largest indie, Allen & Unwin.

"...as a publisher, u keep publishing lit fiction because you’re always an optimist. And you keep publishing those voices because you believe in them." Nice interview with Alex, who I've always had a lot of time for - made my first ever agent sale to her!

I’m reading an anthology of Atwood’s essays on science fiction. It’s interesting to read about what she was thinking as she wrote Handmaid’s Tale and Orynx And Crate

I’m reading The River Swimmer byJim Harrison. I really love his clear prose and how he captures the everyday lives of his characters. I wish his career had been more popular. I’ve read about four of his books and loved every one

Am I the only one who doesn’t like reading books featuring Christmas? Or Halloween books in October?

22.10.2025 16:23 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I read many of his books years ago. Such great humor along with the mystery

I finished Endling by Maria Reva today. I’ve now read seven of the thirteen Booker nominees for this year and Endling has been my favorite. I loved the look into the Ukrainan culture, the strong women, the exploration of relationships and the topic of snail extinction fighting

I liked Flesh much more than I expected. For me , the middle of the novel covering his marriage was the strongest part

I just started Endling today. Fifty pages in. I really like the feel of the writing and dialogue. Also, the story feels fresh. A scientist whose mission is saving snails and the β€˜find a bride’ businesses in Ukraine
