Yup. Just a few days ago I dreamt, again, that it’s the end of the semester and I just remembered that I’m supposed to write a paper for history class.

The two ends of the scarf should be coming together at a 90 degree angle. All four lines go through all three holes. Odd lines go over-under-over-under, even lines go under-over-under-over. Then join and knit across.
The Giver is one of my favorite books. I’d also recommend Scythe (& other books in the Arc of a Scythe series) by Neal Shusterman. Set in the future with benevolent AI and healing nanites in blood, humans are immortal. Scythes are professional reapers who glean people to control population growth.
Spotted lanternflies are spreading in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, and that's a problem. This short video tells you everything you need to know.

Our colleagues at Blue Ridge PRISM did great work advocating for these bills to label invasive species properly. We need to reduce and eventually eliminate invasive plants from the nursery trade to protect natural areas. Invasive species are a huge driver of habitat and biodiversity loss.
A good man has left this world. May he be remembered, because his life was a blessing.
Penllyn Woods trail in Blue Bell, PA, few native species remain among the invasive spread of lesser celandine.
Lesser celandine will be showing itself soon in my area. This is one of the top worst invasive plants we have. I don't know if those bluebells exist anymore, this was taken a few years ago in a nearby park. Bluebells normally grow in massive patches.
This is why invasive species are devastating.
I got an A on my master’s thesis! (1.0 on a German grading scale, which is equivalent to a 4.0 on an American grading scale.)
Plants & insect herbivore interactions play crucial roles in #Ecosystem function & services, yet ongoing climate change threatens these interactions both directly & indirectly. Here, the species' responses to climate change are reviewed & their effect on herbivory! 🧪🌍👇

Can trees prevent disease? 🌳
Like doctors looking for a new cure, researchers wanted to see how increasing the number of trees would affect the community's health.
The first episode in my video series titled “Butterflies and Their Host Plants” is now available!🦋✨
Let me know what you think in the comment section of the video.

A black and white cat.
I did a double take, looked like you had my cat!
Cherry Dagger Moth Caterpillar (Acronicta hasta) Larval host plants...Cherry, Birch, Oak, Willow, Apple
Common Hyppa Moth (Hyppa xylinoides)
Milkweed tiger/tussock Moth Caterpillars (Euchaetes egle Larval host...Milkweed species
Pandora Sphinx Moth Caterpillar (Eumorpha pandorus) on a Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) leaf, It's larval host plant
One of the most fun & interesting aspects of native gardening,
is finding & identifying all the cool little critters enjoying what you've planted for them.
All moths & butterflies have specific plants needed for their larval stage (caterpillar) Not just Monarchs.

NEW! Restoring predators, restoring ecosystems.
"Our findings emphasize the power of predators as ecosystem architects," @johnswinney.bsky.social phys.org/news/2025-02...
Pink flowers (swamp milkweed) with several orange Monarch butterflies feeding from the flowers.
Gardeners often plant wildflowers for pollinators, but not all wildflowers are native plants. This article helpfully teaches the distinction.

Earth's temperature history for the past 500 million years
For my first scientific post here, I want to talk about the Phanerozoic temperature record we published last Fall, which unfortunately has been making rounds in the climate denier circuit 👀 First though hopefully you can appreciate the beauty of this reconstruction ✨...
If you see this, quote post with native flowers from your gallery. #nativeplants
(These are from Virginia)
Back in November, the Earth Sangha's Executive Director, Maddie Bright (@madelinebright.bsky.social) wrote a blog post on longterm salience of conservation work. We feel it's just as relevant now.

Aerial view of bogs and fens interspersed with green vegetation in northwestern Canada.
Birds-eye bog view. Peatlands are one of the world’s best long term carbon sinks, yet each year more and more of these unique ecosystems are destroyed by humans. Let’s agree that these peaty places are too precious - we need to protect what we have left and restore peat accumulation where we can.
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.
Amazing news 🎉: After decades of advocacy, the USFWS today proposed to protect #monarchbutterflies as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
The once-common orange-and-black butterflies have declined by 90% in recent decades.

Meta studies have added value because they can show if there’s a general trend among many studies (which often conflict with each other). The meta studies I’ve read have been useful overviews of topics, and then I still read individual studies as well. I don’t think it’s the same as scraping.
Hi, I’m following you instantly for that bio. I’m nearing completion of my masters degree program in ecology, interested in invasive plants and their interactions with / effects on insects.
Buttonbush flowers with butterflies and wasps, with a blue sky and puffy white clouds above.
Blue skies are rare this time of year in Germany, so here’s an old picture from Virginia. I love the silver spotted skippers, wasps and and bees that were all over this buttonbush. #nativeplants
Working on writing on master’s thesis, which is due very soon.
View of an autumn landscape with goats grazing on a hill in the foreground, a village in the background, and a cloudy sky.
Germany in November. Pretty despite the constant gray skies this time of year.
