I notice that Senator Schumer says the Democrats "will not help pass" the horrid SAVE Act. He does NOT say that Senate Democrats will block the bill via the filibuster.

Attention, fellow journalists: There is no such thing as the U.S. "Department of War." Federal statute declares that agency to be the Department of Defense, a situation that has existed since the late 1940s. Trump's silly and unlawful attempt to rebrand the Pentagon should be disregarded.

Jimmy Carter was a good man. He dealt with the aftermath of the economic pressure caused by the Vietnam War and the OPEC embargo. And while the Iranian revolution did happen in 1979, the roots of that event dated to the 1950s and were driven by years - decades - of the Shah's despotic rule.

Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana, a Navy veteran, assaulted a U.S. Marine at the Capitol yesterday. He cannot plausibly claim that the Capitol Police needed his help. Sheehy committed a crime. He should resign and be prosecuted for it.

How about holding Trump and his minions accountable to law, reining in SCOTUS, ending ICE, and insisting that Congress decide when we go to war?

Every two or four years I read the speculation that Texas will elect a Democrat to statewide office or to the U.S. Senate. It won’t. The election rules in that state are set up to favor the GOP and the electorate is clearly Republican-leaning.

It's a bad look for Democrats to take stances that can be seen as favorable to the regime in Tehran. Better to focus on the question of Congressional approval and the safety of U.S. personnel. Khameini, etc. deserve no sympathy. And forget about the 1950s coup, which is not very relevant now.

Democrats should focus on the importance of Congressional decision making on wars, and point out strategic worries, but not comment in ways that might seem sympathetic to the Iranian regime. Khamenei and his helpers are/were evil. Make that clear.

Trump should've gone to Congress for authorization. But shed no tears for Khamenei and his henchmen. Iran has been a determined U.S. enemy for near 50 years. It has spread terrorism, killed its own citizens, murdered Americans. And the radical Islamists there took hostages in 1979. Justice is done.

Here we are, into the first day of a new U.S. war and with several other conflicts raging, and this idiot, who holds no appointed office in the U.S. government, is going to be given this diplomatic responsibility.

The American people are not likely to learn, at least not very quickly, about any American casualties in this new war. Pete Hegseth's Pentagon has made clear its disdain for the press, after all.

Fine, but in the end Schumer will settle for the White House accepting a stern letter of concern.

How long until John Fetterman announces he's all in on the war against Iran and that we should not criticize Trump over it?

Unless, God forbid, a military uses nuclear bombs dropped from above, air power is not enough to win a war. History shows that even significant aerial bombardment and associated destruction does not defeat an enemy. Nor does it lead to regime change. If Trump is serious, ground troops are needed.
