"Grandpa Chaos" bravo
It would be nice if people remembered this piece of wisdom from the greatest economics tweet in history (and the one I am most insanely jealous of not having written, especially because it was a reply to me).
here are 3 books off the top of my head that will make you write better:
1) elements of eloquence
2) clear and simple as the truth
3) the secret life of pronouns
@alexhanna.bsky.social hiya long-time fan of yours & Emily. saw you IRL in Edinburgh for your book talk. Just completed an enterprise data health study w/@diginomica.com: the actual state of enterprise data health + "AI" readiness. Prominent, cool interviewees, dismal facts. Shall I send your way?
Watching a segment that celebrates women entrepreneurs who gave up looking for employment due to gender based ageism and am irritated by how this form of discrimination is accepted as a fait accompli. Itβs interesting to consider how this differs by industry and profession.
Reading this now and itβs a jaw dropper.
The enterprise tech businesses rely on is essentially like asking a grandpa to compete alongside elite teenage athletes
Decrepit doesnβt begin to describe tech infrastructure.
And the knock-on effects are chilling.
there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).
the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.
Well, gas is expensive, and food is expensive, and weβre doing a war nobody wants, but at least there are no jobs

Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.
No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.
Worth a watch.

I love how Ipsos show the margin of error on their charts. Should be industry standard!
Truly the Fyre Festival of strategic campaigns.
The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive
My book goes to Congressπ₯°! Rep. Desaulnier recently quoted The AI Con in the US House subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. This is why "AI" will make our jobs worse.

tweet from lisa desjardins reporting SOTU might be up to 3 hours long
Itβs both funny and cosmically correct that the U.S. menβs hockey chodes will have to sit through 2+ hours of rambling from their addled little king while the U.S. Womenβs team gets to skip the speech and party with Flavor Flav in Vegas
love this for us
In this 2024 interview, Jack Hughes, who just scored the game-winning goal for the US Olympic hockey team, explains why it was important for him to embrace Pride Night when many other NHL players refused to do so.
"Rich asshole says some baseless shit" should not be news.
Trump acknowledges that Democrats would be better off packing the court.
YES THEY WOULD. IF DEMS WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO ME ABOIT THIS, I HAVE EXTENSIVE NOTES
huh larious because it's true
this is crazy to hear because accounting is a data model that's existed for decades.
AI can't be deployed enterprise-wide outside finance as no one anywhere can agree on a data model. It's all just wildly disordered data across the enterprise. Seemed like F&A is the one place it'd work
Jeez I've been wondering about this so it's interesting to see this take.

you would think!
Along the same line, senior marketing leader today said her whole team is ChatGPTing sales and marketing outreach messaging
To what end?
Really impressive handling of a nakedly disingenuous line of questioning. That line about βtheyβre all innocent then?β was such obvious bait, but Polanski so deftly used it to turn the force of the question around. As a new UK voter Iβm so happy to see any glimmer of moral leadership again.
Cartoon. Person says to other person βWe invented a robot that answers questions.β, adding, βwe just have to feed it 10 baby giraffes a dayβ. The other person asks βBut it answers the questions correctly?β Person responds βOh my goodness, no. No no no no no.β By Aram J. French Appropriated due to missing alt text
great question
Of all the things that are not sustainable in this silly season, this is one that doesn't get enough attention.
