LANRICK BENNETT JR., CREATOR OF #HEARTHIS BLACK HISTORY IN THE #EASTEND (PICTURED LEFT) TALKS TO LUKE GALATI, A GUEST SPEAKER ON THE TOUR (PICTURED RIGHT). Li: AMANDA SERAPHINA/THE GREEN LINE. Led by Bennett Jr., the tours began on Aug. 2, 2024, and featured guest speakers such as Galati, who in 2019 advocated to bring basketball nets back to his alma mater, Earl Grey Senior Public School. "The area has a lot of Black residents, and I think sometimes their stories don't get amplified as much as they deserve. I also think that through exploring Black history, you're also learning the history of other people, too," Galati tells The Green Line.

The Anti-Black racism in #TorontoDanforth regarding the removal of basketball nets was what started my drive to tell Black Stories in my community. It was the genesis of #HearThis

How to cycle and drive safely in Toronto with David Shellnutt of the Biking Lawyer LLP - @thegreenlineto.bsky.social thegreenline.to/stories/toro...
Weβre partnering with St. Stephen-In-The-Fields church to host a community dinner and Story Circle in the Kensington-Chinatown neighbourhood on Tuesday, March 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Weβll explore how, with the bike lanes gone, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians can stay safe. Walk Toronto, Curbside Cyle Toronto, The Biking Lawyer David Shellnutt and other groups will provide concrete tips for staying safe while commuting, and will also host resource tables with information you can take home. Dinner and refreshments will be served, so donβt miss out! Our event is Pay What You Can, as we want to include as many Torontonians as possible in this conversation. For transparency, here's a breakdown of our costs: Venue rental: $50 Food and drinks: $300 Labour: $1,200 If you'd like to support our team in continuing to host community-focused events like this, we'd appreciate a contribution of $31 to help us fully cover operational costs. If this is above your budget, we'd appreciate a payment of $10. If that's still a barrier to you joining us, you can contribute as much as you're able (even $1!). RSVP before spots fill up.
