Cartoonish patent drawing showing a "creep" avatar attempting to touch a female avatar and being sent on a "bad trip" as punishment.
The worst online safety invention I've seen:
"Protect" women by turning their avatars' underwear into hyperlinks that send online creeps to a "punishment site."
US Patent 12564791
Today in design patents:
D1117924 issued for a table lamp.
The Patent Public Search drawings are sometimes vastly inferior to the Patent Center versions. Another reason Patent Center should be open to the public without signing in.

"This court set too low a bond. . . . [B]ecause the court didnβt properly structure the bond initially, it left the defendants with uncompensated damages."

I'm absolutely in love with the action shots of this.

Iβm happy to share my latest - βData is Nothing Like Oilβ - an editorial just published in the IIC: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
We should see data not as oil but rather as an oceanβ shifting our regulatory focus from commodification and private control to governance of the knowledge commons:π
This is a massive milestone we've been pushing for years and years.
As government and private sector IT systems come under increasing attack by sophisticated cyber criminals, two federal judges outlined a plan before the Judicial Conference of the United States to accelerate the Judiciaryβs development of a new more secure case management system. Addressing the Conference on Tuesday, Appellate Judge Michael Y. Scudder, who chairs the Conferenceβs Information Technology Committee, and District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove, chairman of the Committee on Court Administration and Case Management, said that development of a replacement for the federal Judiciaryβs aging system is on a fast track, with initial components being tested this year at six courts around the country. βThis project is a top priority for our branch,β Judge Van Tatenhove said. βIt is one we are accelerating to meet our security and operational needs. We must do this given the acute and persistent risk faced by our current CM/ECF system. The new system will replace the Case Management/Electronic Case Files system (CM/ECF) that the courts have relied on for nearly three decades to manage heavy caseloads and carry out court operations. It is used by litigants to file cases and related documents, and it provides the public with access to over 1 billion court records. It is anticipated that the district courts will be the first to start implementing aspects of the new case management system within the next year, followed by appellate and bankruptcy courts. The timeline for completion is two to three years sooner than originally expected.
We have two goals for PACER:
1) Make it secure and modern
2) Make it free
After getting repeatedly hacked, the courts are finally modernizing PACER. The best time for security is before you get hacked, but we'll take the win.
The new system must be free. www.uscourts.gov/data-news/ju...
Even as a cynical scholar of rape culture, I'm shocked that this isn't the headline story on domestic politics everywhere right now. It's just an unfathomable abuse of power, in clear violation of the law.

The DC Disciplinary Counsel has filed ethics charges against DOJ pardon attorney Ed Martin over the letter he sent Georgetown on its DEI policies, court filings show The charges, filed Friday but made public Tuesday, allege he violated the 1st & 5th amendments of the constitution by using his position to threaten not to hire Georgetown students unless the school ceased teaching DEI
Another reason why Bondi is trying to block state bars from investigating DOJ attorneys accused of ethics violations (which is itself illegal): slate.com/news-and-pol...
BREAKING: Former military lawyers say use of JAG lawyers in Minnesota violates the Posse Comitatus Act.
Although recent litigation has focused on troop deployments to American cities, a new challenge in Minnesota looks at DOJ's use of JAG lawyers in non-military cases.

Comparing the arguments here, the decision, as well as the Second Circuit American Girl case could be the start of a nice #LawStudentNote.
Happy International Day of Awesomeness and also (more importantly) new patent day! We have an awesome 1,747 new design patents today, including D1117515 issued for a duck game.
Not Duck Hunt, but it still looks awesome.
