exactly! I was horrified that the band broadness of some LEDs we’ve been using was enough to tip the pss’s by >30% between nominal led WL and true monochromated WL. But getting OK filters on binned LEDs is feasible from 350nm onwards for a fraction of the commercial prices…

and for collimated and <10nm hat function monochromated lightsources for eg 16 wavelengths in range 360-550 nm, there will be a couple of light engine options available soon costing less than $500 (10-50 mW per WL) - hopefully the field will adopt that performance as ‚monochromatic enough‘ standard
i bet you already estimated the likely errors for a few cases, I‘m just interested to know where you think it‘d be reliable enough vs where not
Separate procedure of course but why not rely on inline UVVis detection off HPLC on isocratic run for good approximations to E and Z isomer spectra? Should not be more errorprone than building in nmr or hplc mole fractions at pss; and can be normalised to absolute extinction coefficients

Interesting paper by the groups of @zhizhou1619.bsky.social and Xiang Sheng in @natcomms.nature.com. They developed a system, with which thiophenols can be fed to cells, converted into non-canonical amino acids and used for genetic code expansion in protein engineering.
glad I warned a buddy not to submit to this high standards journal…. The rambling article (chatGPT was unfairly denied its corresponding authorship) stank of slop, even without the left-in „Note to self“ of „Take the baby example“
I miss the elegant satire of the Neurosurgery on Saturn paper.
It gives me the chills that there might be real children behind some of these sci rep slop datasets (the ones that „for privacy reasons cannot be made public“) - spare a thought for the quackery and persecution being meted out by these brain rot authors at their hospitals…
