SM Airport plans

Whoops I forgot about posting on bluesky again. Here are the 3 scenarios, for any procrastinators out there who still need to do civically engage docs.google.com/document/d/e...

Scenario 1 is the most park-centric plan. It has a big loop path around a reservoir and the former runway is essentially kept as a lawn. There are plenty of sports facilities and many of the courts, fields and lawns are 'leasable'

I found the survey UX nearly impossible to navigate even when I was using a big external monitor. The text of what you're trying to match up is tiny _and_ far away from the image you're trying to reference. It would be impossible on mobile.

I'll do my best to explain the scenarios for y'all here

A couple months back, Santa Monica changed its rules about where tattoo shops can be. Since then three have popped up within a few blocks of each other on Main: The Apollo Tattoo Studio, Black Hand and now Kiss Kiss.

The Santa Monica Airport park/redevelopment options have been released…

There’s a lot of good, but what the consultants chose to propose is kinda perplexing

How federal agencies have already changed their websites under Trump “Diversity” has been deleted. “Climate resilience” is now a popular substitute for “climate change.” And “pregnant people” has been replaced by “pregnant women.”

How thoroughly are some US govt. agencies scrubbing things from the web? Our review of 8000+ web pages found wild examples: At the EPA, the “Diversity Commitment and Code of Conduct” was deleted off a page from a 2021 conference. A DHS job listing no longer promises an “inclusive” environment.

U.S. data journalism leans heavily on datasets from federal and federally funded programs, government is simply better positioned to collect data on a range of national issues. When datasets go offline, we know less about the truth than we did before.

it’s going to be better tomorrow. winds have calmed (relatively) into the night, lafd has a shot at getting ahead of the fires overnight before winds pick up again & won’t be nearly as bad as they were yesterday. more resources will be mobilized, too. tomorrow will be better.

All my love to folks in southern California tonight.

If you or your loved ones are there:
Charge your phones
Pack a go-bag if you haven't already
Check in on your neighbors
Wear your N95 masks for smoke

Can you rearrange a spreadsheet of precinct election results so it looks like this CSV file?

If so, we've got a bunch of Michigan counties to work on. Email (in profile) or DM for details!

Venice homeless housing development continues in limbo as councilmember declares the project dead Approval of a 120-unit affordable housing development in Venice by the California Coastal Commission this week did not lead to clarity on whether it will break ground.

Paradigmatic example of aldermanic privilege in L.A. on affordable housing.

Councilmember wants 120-unit project on city-owned parking lot in Venice. It gets approved.

Newly elected councilmember opposes project. Mayor defers to her. Project stalls and might be dead www.latimes.com/homeless-hou...

There is a plant nursery in Santa Monica that I’m so impressed by. Yes they have nice plants and chickens. But they also host a ton of community events in their garden.
