Thatβs gorgeous! TIL!
The January 2026 supermoon hangs yellow and large in the dawn sky above a building and young tree
Jupiter appears as a flared white star in the night sky, with three of its four Galilean moons visible.
A crow sits in the top of a leafless tree on the top of a gentle hill, all silhouetted against an orange dawn sky.

What a photo π€©
A close crop of a telephoto view of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank observatory, pointing left and slightly up, framed against a grey sky, with fog-hazed forest in the foreground. The large radio telescope takes up a third of the width of the photo, and a sixth of the height, dwarfing the trees beneath it. At its base sits the Mark II telescope, and the 42ft telescope is just visible behind it.
A wide portrait shot of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank observatory, pointing up and left into a vast grey sky, with fog-hazed forest and buildings in the foreground. The large radio telescope takes up a third of the width of the photo, and a sixth of the height, dwarfing the trees beneath it.
A medium portrait crop of a telephoto view of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank observatory, looking up and left into a vast grey sky. The bottom tenth of the photo is taken up by fog-shrouded dark green forest.
The magnificent #LovellTelescope (and friends) @jodrellbank.bsky.social, rising out of the fog over the #Cheshire countryside.

A view of the Knutsford Road Bridge and Thelwall Locks on the Manchester Ship Canal near Warringron, looking NE from the Cantilever Bridge. Dense autumn trees line the canal on both sides.
Screenshot of the AR mode in the Sky Tonight app, showing the view from the other photo on this post, with the moon and its orbit superimposed near the farther bridge, with the date set to December 1st 2025, time 14:04.
The #SkyTonight AR mode + time travel is so useful for planning #astrophotography! Iβve been dreaming of a moonrise photo over these bridges on the Manchester Ship Canal for ages and finally got myself down there to find the best day and time. Now just need the weather to hold outβ¦

And Jodrell Bank is magical in the evening. Started with a gentle stroll through autumn finery, left to the a lovely view of the lit-up #LovellTelescope.
Get yourself down to the next one.
Genuinely exciting end to the lecture, learning about how the new #VeraCRubin observatory will take us from knowing about three of these interstellar objects, to hundreds.
Enjoyed a fantastic and engaging lecture βInterstellar Objects and other Storiesβ from @chrislintott.bsky.social at @jodrellbank.bsky.social on Thursday, featuring comet 3I/Atlas and lots of other moving points of light.
A close up photo of a pigeon sitting stoically on a garden fence in torrential rain. Droplets are bouncing off its back, looking like streaks due to the slightly long exposure.
When itβs raining in your head (or in life)β¦ be like the pigeon.

Absolutely brilliant πΈ
Rest in Peace Jim. You were an inspiration. #NASA #Space #Science #Engineering #Apollo I'll plan on taking a picture of your intended landing site on the #Moon.

Gorgeous #moon tonight!
Jurassic World: Rebirth is a 12A.
βyour parents were so preoccupied with whether or not they could take you to the film, they didnβt stop to think if they shouldβ
A side-on photo of the Lovell radio telescope at Jodrell Bank during the Blood Moon of August 2023. The bottom third of the image is silhouetted treeline, with the telescope rising out of it on the left, and the blood moon bright in the sky on the right, looking more like the sun than the moon.
Not so often at night because life is hectic, but it is my go-to for βsomething cool is happening in the sky, where can I see it fromβ. I took this one of the blood moon in 2023
Indeed, reminds you of how much is up there! I go often, but usually during the day - hard to resist the beautiful grounds and forced unplugging π΅, not to mention the good coffee and excellent pie in the cafe. And the fact that one booking gets you as many visits as you want for the year!
Thank you βΊοΈ I was wondering what the comparison of the nT would be.
I love the pink!
That helps thanks π
I just reposted these from October last year to pick me back up. It was my first and so far only sighting, but if I never see it again Iβll always have that memory of the absolute strangeness. It was so vivid even to the naked eye.

Photo of the October 2024 Aurora at Jodrell Bank. The sky is filled with red aurora patterns, with a soft green band cutting across the middle. The Lovell radio telescope is visible in the bottom right, tinged red by the aurora. The silhouette of trees covers the bottom 1/6th of the photo. Toward the left of the photo from behind the treeline, a bright light from another building at the site flares in a star shape.
A wide shot of the October 2024 aurora at Jodrell Bank. The dish of the Lovell radio telescope peeks out from the silhouetted treeline. The aurora patterns beam down upon it, red at the top, changing to yellows and greens further down. A handful of stars are visible as bright points of light scattered across the sky.
Quelling FOMO from missed #aurorawatch pings by a) telling myself it was probably cloudy and b) looking at my photos from October when I stood in the middle of a field next to the Lovell telescope @jodrellbank.bsky.social. I didnβt know whether to laugh, shout or just lie down #aurora #jodrellbank
Push notification from the AuroraWatch UK app: TIME SENSITIVE 3h ago AuroraWatch UK: Red alert: aurora likely. Sat 14 Jun, 04:27 BST.
The mixed emotions when you wake up to one of these and then realise it was almost certainly total cloud cover #aurorawatch
And if you want to keep on top of developments with testing (and everything else) in Storybook, try their Discord discord.gg/storybook
If you havenβt come across them before, theyβre called βinteraction testsβ. Docs here: storybook.js.org/docs/writing...
#TDD with @storybook.js.org is joyous. Same @testing-library.com API we're all used to, but now we can see the component as we red-green-refactor! And it is _fast_.
Can't wait to adopt this at scale.
Next time: Playwright component tests, and enhancements Storybook plan to make with real events β¨
Poster for Middlesbrough Front End meet-up, showing talks from Peter Calvert, Nicol Reid, and me, Tom Jardine-McNamara!

@jodrellbank.bsky.social Thank you and Dr Sarah Crowther for a wonderful evening learning about the #OSIRISREx asteroid sample return mission.
Always magical visiting in the evening too!
