A Chaplain a day keeps the sins away. Except for Saturday, when Elton John is played loud and hedonism reigns supreme.

Trump's brazen pro Russia, anti Europe foreign policy knows no bounds. Lifting sanctions on Russian oil, when the surge in oil prices already gives Russia an extra $150m a day is Putin's wildest dream. The idea that oil price hikes are an unforeseen consequence of waging war on Iran is absurd.
#CONCACAF should award Mount Pleasant a 3-0 win over LA Galaxy.

"Aside from the internment camps used to incarcerate Japanese Americans in the 1940s, such facilities have no precedent in American history..."

BBC broadcasters use this term, applied specifically to immigration, all the time. It's infuriating.
And what's so sad is that there's a good many countries that are headed the same way.
I can imagine a path that America could take to avoid the nails being banged into the coffin for its liberal democracy. But it's hard to imagine America taking such a path, from where it is now, led by the people who hold the reins of power and with its broken, corrupt politics the backdrop.
It's hard to imagine a Government that is less patriotic and Christian than Trump's band of self-serving fascists and kleptocrats.
Notice the strong correlation between great places to live and places where liberalism is politically dominant.
"As the journalists interacted with the migrants, uniformed police barged in and detained the lawyer and four journalists. Police confiscated their cameras, laptops and phones..."

So #Farage plans to turn the UK into an authoritarian nightmare, complete with a UK version of ICE and massive concentration camps to detain millions of people currently living here legally. As in the US and elsewhere, the cruelty of fascism is deliberate.
New England strikes me as a good place to take a stand against tyranny.
Make Britain Great Again. Put kids to work up chimneys and under weaving mules. Fill the air with smog. Take old time pictures of workers smiling, with their lungs full of toxic dust. Abandon the minimum wage. Replace unemployment benefit with the Workhouse. Abolish the NHS. You know it makes sense.
It's a rubbish tax at that. It's much more a move to just stick his finger up at the Court. So much for being the Party of law and order.
Always remember that when Trump and Johnson talk about the billions of Dollars raised by Trump's #tariffs, they are talking about money that has been taken from American companies and American consumers. It's a tax, whether you like it as a tax or don't like it as a tax, it's still a tax.

A sensible judgment by the UK High Court. But allowing the ban to remain in place and people to remain in prison while the Government contemplates, then brings an appeal is wrong. Unlawful arrests, convictions and imprisonment should end now.

Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia. Memorialised by #VladyslavHeraskevych, which led the IOC to ban him from competition and even from being present in the Olympic village. Shame.
Follow the money.
Apart from his horrible attitude to ordinary folk, Ratcliffe of INEOS is wrong. The UK population was 67.1 million at the mid-point of 2020, not 58m (that was just England). The last UK estimate in 2025 was 69.4m. Imagine going on TV to spout your bile with blatantly false information.
Another day, another billionaire doing his utmost to make people who have little go after people who have little instead of seeing obscene wealth and associated power as the fundamental problem the world over.
America deserves justice to be served, via an independent Special Prosecutor, with cross party backing and unfettered access to everything related to Epstein and his accomplices.
And it's so intertwined with massive inequalities of wealth and power, as kleptocrats and their backers hoard ever more of both with insatiable lust and greed.
A very good piece by Zoe Williams. I would contextualise this as modern international fascism, manipulating by hate, fear, difference via notions rooted in blood, soil, God, heritage & exceptionalism. The antithesis of the enlightenment and the age of reason.

So, #LordOfTheFlies. Along with 1984, the book really shaped much of my world view. I liked the 1963 film too, which we watched at school. The 1990 telling was poor. The new series now on the BBC? Is it another great adaptation or another to avoid?
We need to be careful in damning anyone who has maintained a friendship with a friend who has committed an offence, even a nasty offence. Forgiveness & the possibility of redemption are important. Of course that starts with remorse on the part of the guilty, and not damning victims as a smokescreen.
Farage will hate it. And that's a bonus.
Reform of the Lords and reducing both Houses in size to follow.
Starmer should NOT resign over Mandelson. He should seize the moment to change our politics, driving out the corrupting influence of big business and the billionaire class. Ban paid lobbying by Parliamentarians & MPs' extra jobs. Reform Party funding. Fair voting. More scrutiny of the executive.
