To be clear, I recognize (and acknowledge in the piece) that the governor had political motives for making such a call. But IMO we as meteorologists should recognize there were valid reasons for concern about the forecasts and warnings and explore accordingly.
I answer that in the post: no (in my opinion)

Quick update on severe weather risk the next few days. Tornado risk has increased a bit in the Mid-South for today, still looking at active Tuesday in Midwest and Texas. More: open.substack.com/pub/balanced...
Map snapshot depicting the predicted relative anomalousness of surface temperatures from the ECMWF ensemble over the Western U.S. in about a week from now. A a huge region of bright orange and red colors (depicting extremely high warm temperature anomalies) is centered right in the middle of the map, and covers essentially the entire region.
Lots of buzz online about an upcoming major March heatwave for the American SW & California. And in this case, it does indeed appear increasingly likely than an extremely anomalous and even record-breaking heatwave may envelop much of the SW about a week from now.
I mean, I know it's not a zero probability - but if the general public can't pretty much rule out sig tornadoes outside of a CIG1, what exactly is the point of doing it? Maybe we just need to admit that we missed a forecast and try to learn from it (again, being a bit provocative/cranky lol)
Kind of being intentionally provocative here - but at what point are we just using probabilities to be a CYA? While maybe not 100% accurate scientifically, my understanding from a real world perspective is that only 1 of every 100 EF3s should occur outside of a CIG1. That's a pretty low dang risk.
