My team and I were also privileged to have a good exchange with him about his work at TESOL graphics and ours at #SingTeach, our teacher-friendly e-magazine. Looking out for more collabs!
Really enjoying hosting his talk for @rppg-t4i.bsky.social's 4th webinar series on "Evidence Ecosystem in 'Close-to-Practice' research" - a term I've never heard before. Fascinating to hear about the work and research the @natinstteaching.bsky.social does.
It's an absolute pleasure to be able to host Prof @sinwangchong.bsky.social , Visiting Scholar to #NIE with the RPPG team last week! Thank you for sharing your expertise and experience with us, and for introducing us to colleagues at the @natinstteaching.bsky.social, Drs Ellen Turner and Calum Davey
Here's a list of 236 Bluesky science feeds and their hashtags!
#AcademicSky #PhDSky #EduSky π§ͺ
Guess I'll recommend #BlueArk nonetheless! Might be good to decide which years you might want to export in case you end up like me.
Verdict on #BlueArk: It was a very useful efficient way to export my tweets to #BlueSky. 1171/1808 tweets were exported-mostly original tweets. But guess what, all tweets from 2007-2019 were personal and private (yes, I'd joined twitter in my college days). I then painstakingly deleted them π
Very interesting that this tweet, written in 2021, is now quite the joke on #BlueSky.
π§ͺ We're in Nature! Thank you
@smritimallapaty.bsky.social for the report and @bossett.social for making this feed a success. It's good to be here with you all!
I just watched half of the documentary, Buy Now, on Netflix and the simplicity of online purchase is the reason why it's sinister too. Heading out to the shops could be one solution.
I don't want to start from scratch to build my BlueSky personality so I just tried migrating my 1808 tweets using BlueArk for USD$4.90. Waiting to see if it works. If it does, it's a whole new world!
Q: with respect to Minister's aspiration of the pedagogy of one, what are your views?
Mutlu: Pedagogy of one has been shown to be powerful for certain types of learning. But learning is much more than mere acquisition. We need to blend with social constructivist pedagogies.
Qn: Why is teachersβ Trust in EdTech more pertinent now, in the era of GenAI than before in the era of Web 2.0? Does it affect their acceptance leading to adoption?
Beware of confirmation bias, and also not to lose trust immediately when an error occurs.
He suggests to think about specific pedagogical approach when using these tools. Inquiry based learning is a good approach, before giving them the tool to sensemake, rather than to generate responses.
Q&A session: What is your view on students replacing their learning with AI generated answers? How do we ensure AI is use as an aid for student's learning, instead of using AI to complete their homework?
Great conclusion for considerations!
Research on AI was embarked on to understand our own intelligence. We need to discern when to use AI and when the risks are too great. Consider what the long term implications of using AI on our own competencies are. Research in long term effects is still lacking.
A good reminder that the more we use AI, the more our own competencies could decline. Perhaps the way forward is really on how we augment our cognition with AI.
Despite the promise of AI, Mutlu reminds that it's not always possible to develop mathematical models of everything.
In a private school in the States, AI is used to help students gain content knowledge for about 2 hours, followed by about 6 hours of working on lifelong skills. If that's the way forward, then assessments of students really should change.
Why isn't it prevalent in mainstream education then? Many different factors affect the effective application of AI. Researchers really should be mindful that it is not just AI but AI in an ecosystem.
The opening video on new ChatGPT4.0 was really impressive. There is some evidence of impact of intelligent tutoring systems. And AI can be an applied tool for teachers and students.
Honoured to have Professor @MutluCukurova here with us at #RPIC2024 Day 3 as our last keynote speaker on "Beyond the Hype of AI in Education to Visions for the Future"
A huge privilege to be able to host @bpenuel and his wife, Edie, at the #RPIC2024 conference. Thank you for sharing your work. I'm really encouraged by the possibilities RPP affords! It was also a joy moderating your Q&A session.
I really liked her closing at the end, that research knowledge needs to influence practice, and vice versa! And mindsets, skills and capacity on both sides need to change for the troubled waters between reach and practice to be bridged. #RPIC2024
Professor Elaine Munthe, 4th Dr Ruth Wong Professor in Teacher Education, began #RPIC2024 with the opening keynote.
Rehearsing for #RPIC2024. Starting in less than 17 hours! Hope to see you there! @OER_NIE
So, so thrilled to finally be able to meet @mobilemobilizer and fan-girl in person! Thanks, David, for being such a generous mentor and friend since we met online in 2020! And for the lovely walk and dinner today with @mobilizemichael, Krista, Gary, and Sophie! Talk again soon!
So glad this arrived so quickly after seeing it on @blakeacutler's tweet. A glimpse into the future because it's my first 2024 book! Hope to finish before 2023 ends! π Congrats, and thanks for putting all Q Project's insights together, @mark_rickinson, and colleagues!
A lovely end to #EIS2023 having lunch with Arild, @MaryAbdo, @cheryl_kfseah, and @vness_rose. Thanks for the lovely time.
