It was no more an error than when Israel bombed all those hospitals in Gaza. It was very much deliberate. Hegseth should be fired, Trump should be removed from office, the military leaders should be stripped of their positions, and the whole lot of them should be prosecuted for war crimes.

This interview with the great @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social was a "wow" moment for me. Thanks, New York Times and David Marchese.

Looking forward to the era of AI social science: the data is AI-generated, the paper is written by AI, the paper is reviewed by AI, and summarized for students and researchers by AI.

Trump and Netanyahu's illegal war on Iran has successfully buried media coverage of the Epstein Files.

Do not stop talking about this atrocity.

War crimes do not cover sex crimes.

Release the files, prosecute the abusers, sentence the guilty, protect the harmed.

Dear everyone,

As per the post from the Bodleian librarian below, AI bots and scrapers are putting just about every website under great pressure, British History Online included.

A lot of excellent tech staff are working hard to keep everything working, but outages and siruptions are inevitable.

US responsible for deadly missile strike on Iran school, preliminary inquiry says Strike that killed at least 175 people, most of them children, reportedly due to targeting mistake by US military planners * Minab school bombing: a visual guide A preliminary US military investigation has reportedly determined that Washington was responsible for a deadly Tomahawk missile strike on an Iranian elementary school in February that killed scores of children. According to the New York Times, quoting unnamed US officials and others familiar with the initial findings, the investigation has concluded that the strike on 28 February on the Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school building was the result of a targeting mistake by the US military planners. When I give talks about the exploitation of GLAM by the AI industry I’m always asked β€œhow can we defend ourselves from bots scraping our metadata?” I have no idea. That’s a question for an engineer. What I can and do say is that we shouldn’t be supporting this industry in the first place.

Worth forever reiterating that most of the "long" novels of the 19th century were not received as long at the time, but generally as subdivided shorter works, sometimes something we would consider more like a comic book than a terrifying doorstop.

I too found the Zack Polanski hypnotherapist thing to be eyebrow raising when I first heard of it
but weighing it up on centrists' favourite "Lesser Of Two Evils" test, he didn't LARP as a human rights lawyer then go on to enable genocide and turn Labour into the Tory party

so I'll let this one go

I've said before I have a buddy who is in his early 80s and he grew up in rural Iowa and he said kids just disappearing from school because they had died was a normal occurrence for him.

From k-12 I knew OF (only one I knew directly) three kids who died total. Two by suicide, one from cancer.

These are the images of the Gaza War Cemetery where 140 Australian war graves have been desecrated by the Israeli military including bulldozing graves. Very real concern that Australian soldiers remains have been bulldozed and disturbed.

"The ministry condemned the attack, noting the paramedics were travelling in clearly marked ambulances, and called for international intervention to stop the targeting of medical personnel in Lebanon."

Guessing Australia won't be stepping up to help prevent the targeting of medical personnel.

The Albanese Labor Government is supporting bombing a country, then preventing people fleeing that violence from seeking safety here.

It is wicked.

The govt is making a big deal about giving temporary humanitarian visas to a small number of female Iranian ⚽️ players.

At the same time, the XBENCH is trying to block the govt passing legislation to enable it to suspend the temporary visas to πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί already held by 7000+ Iranians outside this country.

accuracy of advice provided to the Cabinet under their names. Those
were and are requirements of the principle of Cabinet solidarity. But
that does not mean that the presenting and portfolio ministers were
(or presumably are) expected to examine or interrogate each
proposal they brought to Cabinet with the time, skill and insight of
the departmental experts whose role it was to ensure that the NPP
complied in all respects with Cabinet requirements. If the
department failed to ensure that an NPP was compliant, the
presenting minister and to a greater or lesser extent the portfolio
minister were ultimately responsible; but not necessarily, if at all,
because of any personal failing on the part of those ministers to do
what was to be expected of a competent minister in the presenting
or portfolio minister’s position. Neither presenting ministers nor
portfolio ministers had or presumably have the time, or in most
cases ability, to reinterpret or re-examine matters covered in the
checklist; especially the question of whether legislation is required.
Ministers were, and presumably still are, expected to and did rely on
the warranty of the secretaries of the departments who had signed
off on their Cabinet submissions.

NACC lets Morrison off the hook, believing Ministers shouldn't be expected to "examine or interrogate" new proposals like Robodebt. They say Ministers also don't have the time or ability (??) to ensure programs are compliant with the law.

What...do they think we're paying these people to do?
