In the late '80s / early '90s we discovered that feeding processed bovine meat and bone meal to cattle leads to Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE or "mad cow disease").

What strange new wonders will come from artificial intelligences cannibalizing themselves?

cursΓ©d breakfast thought:

β€œAIsβ€œ no longer have female names bc their makers want them to benefit from the unwarranted respect accorded to men

and also himpathy

fwiw i've used llms in science-related tasks and i do have experience with pathological liars and tech editing, and i've seen first hand how "smoothly" it goes from research to wild speculation, bc there is no intelligence there, no difference between fact and facty-sounding next word

the super-rich give up on living for pure greed for power, money, and "impact"

they don't enjoy their own lives, they seek to control and wreck others'

i don't even think it's need vs want. nothing wrong with wanting a nice home and luxurious vacations. but not one super rich person stops when they have all the things a normal person could want

scientists are just as easily fooled as everyone else; research has actually shown that the better you regard your own intellectual abilities, the easier you are to trick

10.03.2026 15:03 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

yes. it's a genuine intellectual crisis. gullible people aren't able to notice the many errors that slip in because the text sounds plausible and confident and they lack the social skills to deal with confident liars and have also never been technical editors. and i know you're being sarcastic

10.03.2026 15:02 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

people do all kinds of dangerous things that aren't good and are in fact counterproductive; people trick themselves all the time. use doesn't make them useful.

the fact is, when you ask about facts, citations, etc, there's a 40-60% error rate.

they can't "extract knowledge," they can only predict the likely next token based on a lot of math

and that is not useful at all in any context where you need actual knowledge

non-losers stop seeking money and power when they have enough to live the way they want

nobody is saying they're equivalent but that there is no such thing as "intelligence" or understanding. and nobody else had problems understanding this.

*whispers* the original was a thinly veiled racist metaphor for formerly enslaved black men, complete with all the racist tropes about them (β€œsavagery,” stealing white women being the big ones.) the horror is the viewers know they deserve to be prevented on. only in the fantasy, kong loses.

More and more, people are relying on side hustles (or main hustles!) to pay their bills and the taxes on independent contracts are mindblowingly brutal and demand absurd amounts of hoop jumping for people barely making ends meet. Fix THAT because in a volatile economy, gig work patches holes.

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

if you want to offset the $2000 this rent cop decided not to donate, please
venmo @colocha_rachel so we can pay the rent

ohhhhh i thought the wood lamp (which is also v cool) was part of the bookcase, front-facing wood trim

10.03.2026 01:51 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

that is simply unnecessary

esp bc you can buy legit modern designers like pierre paulin for the same or less and those are much harder to make (curvy fiberglass and molded foam)

10.03.2026 01:49 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

i'm very envious of your bookcase and would love a photo in the light sometime if you'd be willing to share.
