Box made from roe deer bone with circle and dot decoration
Box made from roe deer bone with circle and dot decoration. The lid is half slid revealing inside.
Saw this little box today. Made from bone, found under the head of a female burial in Broadway of late roman date. As the archaeological archivist, it will my job to get this & rest of the archive to the County Museum after all analysis & reporting has been completed. @profaliceroberts.bsky.social
A day out during the Christmas break while processing a major change in our family. Losing a parent is awful. We have become a closer family as we get together to support each other.

Plan for today... curl up to finish this with a bag of choc buttons, nap, walk, dinner, perhaps a bit of writing but early night. Didn't get home until just after 3 this morning and am knackered. Have a good Sunday folks.

Mouse balancing on a bramble. Photograph by Alan Heeley.
A close-up of Old Fox's face.
Under a thundery yellow sky, Mouse & Old Fox were picking blackberries on Gleydestow lane. Mouse accidentally dropped her basket & began to cry. I can't do anything, I'm such a fool. Old Fox took her little paw in his, you are one of the bravest souls I have ever met, he said.
Why do colleagues come to work and start eating their breakfasts at their desks? Doesn't matter what time of day they come in, they have to start eating. Also eating it with a teaspoon should be banned... #Monday
The photo shows an Acheulean biface handaxe knapped from dark grey flint with a creamy-white cortical layer, shown against a black background. The handaxe is roughly tear-drop shaped with a pointed tip and rounded bottom. There is a fossil shell centrally displayed on one face, identified as the Cretaceous bivalve mollusc Spondylus spinosus. Above the shell to the right is a small rectangular museum label. The toolmaker has knapped the flint in such a way as to retain the shell in a central position. Measurements 79mm x 35mm x 132mm Weight 0.375kg. Collections of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge.
Something beautiful for the weekend!
An extraordinary Acheulean handaxe knapped around a fossil shell c. 500,000-300,000 years ago!
The shellβs central display has been described as an example of aesthetic intention by the toolmaker.

Quitting putting effort into a WhatsApp group chat is an act of self preservation. Always being the one to initiate conversation and getting very few answers in return. Always excuses to meeting up. Well I am done. No more messages from me.

Designing Discworld is coming to Worcester Museum and Art Gallery UK. Folklore played a huge part in Sir Terry Pratchetts popular Discworld series with creatures, beliefs and magic. Opens tomorrow and it looks gorgeous

Having the week off as its one of those "milestone" birthdays this week. First morning of first day off and I'm collapsed on the bed after a manic deep clean session. Im not doing 'holiday' right am I?
