I think my HP laser printer is at least 20 years old now. I've gone through multiple ink-jet ones and mainly use them as scanners.

The bio on their website was perfectly fine. Sorry this happened, especially at a launch day event. Looking forward to our copy on its way from Bricks & Mortar...

That's a blast from the past. I remember when they aired it on PBS in the U.S. I still have the soundtrack LP. I'm not sure if I ever saw the second series, which was deemed too risquΓ© for American audiences.

ECCC was fun and I had a wonderful time.

But there was a storm cloud. When I complained about Trump with my white straight cis friends, we were all sincere and concerned.

But I talked with many Trans friends, and it’s so much worse. They are in fear for their lives.

Cover of The Last Hero, a Discworld Fable by Terry Pratchett, illustrated by Paul Kidby, Shows a scrawny old warriot with a long beard, an eye patch, and a tattered cape. He is holding a sword in his right hand and a can in his left hand. In the background is a mountain range.

I was hoping we'd get Cohen the Barbarian!

Maybe we will if the Conan movie does well.....

Once again, trying to nullify my valid vote.

What's your sign?

I'm most familiar with our local show (Phoenix Fan Fusion), which I worked on for a few years. They've bounced back post-Covid with a record 130K last year. They're sticking with the actor/celebs/anime voice actors/comics/author mix. Experiments with wrestlers didn't draw much extra.

09.03.2026 03:04 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Nope, mid-April. I don't see that there is that much of an overlap. You go to Coachella to be in the desert and watch a bunch of musical acts. ECCC's big draw is the actor celebs, with comics and authors secondary.

That article is from last year. It appears they didn't learn anything and are going full steam ahead. Unless they get major concert acts at ECCC, they aren't going to draw fans away from Coachella. Video game bands won't do it. Phoenix gave up on that over ten years ago and they drew 130K in 2025.

09.03.2026 02:29 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Phoenix had over 130K last year. Hayden Christensen was the big draw. Adding music acts won't compete with Coachella. Phx hasn't really done music stuff since the Paul & Storm show that I put together in 2014 and con publicity refused to promote it.

Boosting the signal. Help them out if you can.

There's tons of accounts like that that spew endless fake reports. One friend shared one about how DIck Van Dyke was related to Alex Pretti and such, and that account had dozens of fake BS about Dick (he was on life support, he donated millions to some charity, etc).

I just paid $3.85 in Phoenix at Costco. They were under $3 a couple of weeks ago.

Likely AI chat response received for Fans of Connie Willis facebook account.

"Between Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog, readers generally find To Say Nothing of the Dog to be the more emotionally uplifting overall. It has a lighter, more humorous tone, even while being clever and thoughtful, which tends to resonate especially well during the holidays"

Her last message really read like an AI opinion and didn't really ask for a response, so I left it at that and never heard any more from them...

Of course, now that I'm the one posting her political posts to facebook, I'm getting a different type of strange messages...

I ended up having an overlong thread as Connie Willis' webmaster for someone wanting recommendations one what book to get their sister for Christmas. I made it clear I was not Connie, and gave her some recs, but she just wouldn't stop asking more questions about the books and such.

Maybe someone could write a script to automate the process?

I was a latecomer to GEnie, mainly due to Babylon 5 activity. I was a Sysop on Compuserve's SFRT. Paying for access by the minute to be there.

The Magrathea BBS running on an Atari 800 at 300 baud for me. I was also a Sysop on the Compuserve SFRT forum. Via usenetarchive dot com, I can look at my earliest posts on usenet...

Textbooks have material that is acceptable to the most conservative states, so the entire country gets that skewed view.

occasionally I get pushed on the question of - why did you choose to write about an empire? why doesn't your book series interrogate the legitimacy of empires? aren't all empires inherently illegitimate?

this is kind of a funny series of questions, to me.

That definitely surprised me. Although I imagine if I had watched True Detective, it might not have. Definitely sets a certain vibe for the series.

Here's a couple of them...

I ran into Wil Wheaton at Powell's books in Portland one time and he recognized me first.

Also, when I was hosting Jim Butcher at an author event, I accidentally knocked him over.

Looking forward to seeing you and Martha and all the other authors in Tucson in a couple of week. No idea if they will mention you in the local Tucson paper, though. You had @johnpicacio.bsky.social to boost you and Martha in the local paper in San Antonio.

That second requirement is a pretty tough one. What if you are down with the fascist, but aren't willing to work hard?
