The Stanpit Massive ponders the Press bias of the β€œBig6”:
> 600 STs moved at Manure (0.8%) = Outcry
> 600 STs moved at #afcb (6%) = β€œMeh”
Hopefully #ElSeatico will address the issues tonight & deliver 3 points for the fans…

Slim is fuelled & ready to hit the M1. No time for coffee just a flask for the trip to Field Mill.
The Class of 66 will be meeting for a rerun of THAT night in 1969. For anyone watching we’ll be 8x 70yr old blokes misbehaving in the prawn sandwich seats.
Cmon you #Stags

Off to see the Stags stick it to the Arse on Sat in a nod to 1969. The 8 aged, drunk schoolboys giving it large from the prawn sandwich seats will make a good TV spectacle.

I’m not enjoying this place today
But at long last I was able to say a face to face β€œThank you” to the #Captain for his very generous gift some time back. See you for one of those burgers Steve Cook !

It’s dreek at Cobham Towers. The bland supermarket coffee doesn’t help.
Doggies to be walked. M3 to be negotiated. Pie to be consumed. Then the Watchford FC contest begins.
Will the new man have a watch? Will he tap it? If he does it could signal 3 points for #afcb.

Early kick off means early lunch! So he pops the last of his Piglet Pies into the oven for "brunch".

6) We all know that simple injury stats don't adequately describe the impact of player absences & that it is not only absences that affect overall performance. Adding a "player importance/quality" angle seems to shed a little light on how player absences affects performance across seasons.

5) 2019/20 was a perfect storm for #afcb with a high number of injury absences (line & data points) for players of "high quality" (dark segments of columns).
By contrast 2023/24 had a similar level of injury absences but on average it was for "lower quality" players...

4) To look at what this change adds look at #afcb injury data for 2019/20.
The "standard chart shows a large number of games lost to injury but on a par with 2023/24. So why was it so painful? Add in the quality data and all becomes clear...

3) I have 5 years of absence data so worked up a representation of the data below.
The bars show a " % quality" metric for #afcb split into two segments - "% reduction in quality" due to absent players (dark segment) & "% quality remaining" for use on a matchday - it adds up to 100%!

2) First a bit on the model:
It uses Whoscored scores as a measure of player importance/quality. Before the howls start, the source is pretty stable, readily available & has history. I've blended that with historical #afcb absence data to figure out a "quality impact" of absences...

Whereas basic benefits for a single adult would sometimes replace as much as a
third of average earnings in the postwar era, the chart shows
how this ratio then declined unremittingly over decades on end. Long before the
austerity or general stagnation of recent times, anyone relying on the safety net
was prone to fall behind, simply because income support and unemployment
benefits were not routinely adjusted in line with rising living standards among the
wider population. As real wages rose, the proportion of those wages that benefits
would replace would tend to decline. Before a temporary bump up in the safety net
at the depth of the financial crisis, the proportion of an average wage that basic
benefits replaced was languishing at 15 per cent – less than half the peak postwar
proportion

There has been a long slide in the relative value of basic benefits over the past decades.

Even long before the austerity or general stagnation of recent times, income support and unemployment benefits were not routinely adjusted in line with rising living standards among the wider population.
