Yesterday, a federal court allowed the Trump administration's "defund" of Planned Parenthood to go into effect immediately. That means right now, patients are not able to use Medicaid to pay for care at Planned Parenthood health centers.

The Court relies on manufactured scientific uncertainty to justify allowing state governments to flatly prohibit health care that is widely supported by mainstream consensus. The patient, their parents, and their doctors all agree to follow mainstream medical guidelines, but the state wonβt let them

The threat to reproductive health care is existential. PPSNE is a social safety net health care provider in our state and I hope our legislators and government leaders are prepared to step up and fulfill their duty to protect public health by safeguarding PP.

Once again - the excitement we've felt in lower courts preventing parts of the Trump agenda to go forward needs to be tempered because the Supreme Court is the apex court.
And this is the Supreme Court reminding us who it is.

I was thinking how they would "opt out" or "provide notice" to parents -- like here's the calendar...WARNING, week 1 - Bobby's mom is a single working parent who lives with her boyfriend; week 2 - Michaela has two dads; week 3 - Suzie has a mom and dad and a transgender sister...etc. etc.

Agreed @carolinemalacorbin.bsky.social As the argument went on it seems clear that most of them would say that if the kids were "just talking to each other" it would be one outcome, but if it was during facilitated "circle time" it would be another.

The conservative justices inclination to lump anything to do with gender and marriage with sex ed - even picture books for 4-year-olds is jarring.
The regressive view of all queer people as sexual deviants is oozing from these arguments.

Our son's Pre-K has the kids bring pictures of their families to help comfort them/transition to the classroom, and they share them with one another. The lawyer before SCOTUS today would say our son's classmates should be able to opt out of his time to share about our family if we shared this pic π

As we prepare ourselves for Justice Sam "The Only True Victim" Alito asking ridiculous questions in oral argument today, always remember he wrote this in dissent in Obergefell -- about how silenced he'll feel now that gay people can marry and how fearful he'll be for his safety.
Oh poor Sam!
