Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

One thing I have learned from years of talking with and reporting on truckers is that times like these always wipe out small shipping companies and owner operators. It’s brutal and it sucks, for them and for everyone who depends on them (ie all of us)

NTSB member who responded to D.C. midair crash abruptly departs, says he was fired by the White House National Transportation Safety Board member Todd Inman has abruptly departed the agency two years into what is typically a five-year term.

👀 This was the man who attended the scene of the mid-air collision that Trump falsely blamed on DEI hires among Air Traffic Controllers, even before the debris had been recovered.

The sinking of the LNG carrier Arctic Metagaz has already forced other shadow fleet tankers carrying sanctioned Russian natural gas to avoid the Suez Canal and Mediterranean. That means longer voyages around Africa and fewer shiploads of LNG being delivered.

This past week, Ukrainian drones struck and sank a Russian shadow fleet ship in the Mediterranean carrying liquefied natural gas from a sanctioned Arctic project. A European Space Agency researcher shows how a weather satellite captured the initial explosion.

Attacks on Desalination Drag Water Supplies Into the War With Iran Bahrain, which says Iran damaged a plant, is among the Gulf countries that depend heavily on purified seawater.

There are now two reported attacks on desalination facilities in Trump's Iran War: one on an Iranian plant; one in Bahrain. This marks a dangerous escalation in a region highly dependent on #desalination for #water supply.

Even more ominous development. “In the Gulf, desalination facilities are not merely infrastructure. They are essential lifelines that supply drinking water to millions. Striking them risks turning a military confrontation into a direct threat to civilian survival.”

A Crypto Coin Is Gobbling Up U.S. Treasuries

Stablecoin companies "hold more Treasury debt than major U.S. government creditors like Saudi Arabia and South Korea... the next crypto crash could cascade into major losses for the highly sensitive short-term U.S. debt markets in which Treasuries predominate."

Hmm, unclear to me why the DOGE members used ChatGPT in this case. We know from previous reporting that DOGE made use of Grok and other AI chatbots / models in cases involving other government agencies.

Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X

I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.

This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.

PCs, phones to get more boring, expensive in 2026 : 'This is perhaps the biggest challenge the industry has faced since its inception'

Smartphones and computers will have less memory, fewer capabilities and cost consumers more in 2026 and probably 2027. That's because the tech industry's buildout of AI data centers has created a huge memory shortage for all devices, and memory costs have spiked.

New analysis shows that the big AI players (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft) have so far neglected this requirement for GPT, Gemini, Claude, and other models.
