I don't think average people are
It's our Governments that seem to be intent on conflating the two
And it's not helping
lol "caught off-guard".
They literally designed the gun to be as close to illegal as they possibly could and they went to far.
They screwed up.

As the north of the South Island of NZ gets hammered by floods for the third time in as many weeks, now is as good a time as ever to reconsider how we manage flood risk. Rivers need space to flood into. Giving them room to function also brings widespread ecological benefits.

Coastal cleanup in progress
Today is historically the dirtiest beach day of the year. After the fireworks and celebrations fade and the crowds go home, our beaches are left covered in trash. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #CoastalCleanup #July5 #DirtiestBeachDay

There is something sacred about the ocean; we have roughly the same percentage of salt and water in our bodies as the sea. It is in the sweat of our efforts and the tears of our disappointments. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #CoastalCleanups

We love the ocean and love participating in coastal cleanups. They both make you feel small, but not in a negative way; small because you realize you are part of something much larger. Mahalo Everyone! #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #CoastalCleanups
After the brand audit, we choose selected debris for visual aids and upcycling projects. We work with municipalities and waste management companies to recycle as much as possible - the remainder is disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

At local San Diego beaches, over 2,500 pounds of trash were removed, 750 lbs. from Fiesta Island, and another 700 lbs. from Ocean Beach & Estuary, being the dirtiest spots. We will have complete numbers later this week from the rest of California, Florida, and Hawaii.
However, a more grim 2025 peer-reviewed study (Frontiers in Toxicology) analyzing 182 seafood samples (including fish and shrimp from Pacific Northwest markets and boats) found microplastics in 99% of them (synthetic fibers from clothing were the predominant type.)

Land-based sources contribute 70โ80% of ocean plastics. Marine-based sources (mainly fishing gear) account for the remaining 20โ30%. Microplastics (<5โฏmm) make up 90% of ocean plastic particles (mainly clothing fibers) and are detected in 60% of seafood. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean

Floating plastic and oil pollution
Plastics are a primary marine pollutant and a driver of the climate crisis. Plastics discarded in the environment release methane, ethylene, PFAS, and other toxic chemicals, which also interfere with the oceanโs ability to store carbon. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #FridaysforFuture #ClimateCrisis

White America, we need to invite the screams of brown-skinned people inside, to let them break our hearts and boil our blood until the fury within us erupts in a sustained roar that violently disrupts an inhumanity that will not stop unless we make it stop.

Sure, and maybe one day they'll make a globally famous Broadway musical about it
But you have to get out of this bit first
That's how it works

In case there was any remaining doubt, ONLY totalitarian Govts and dictatorships are this intentionally cruel to the people they subjugate.
No one else does this
Shocking...
