It’s surreal. And it’s meant to be depressing and numbing. I’m trying to not let it.

I have a new short story out today!
"La Sirena's Blessing of Belonging" is about a girl making a wish to find where she belongs. It's a deeply personal piece about biracial identity—and also a contemporary (slightly futuristic) magical realism story rather than secondary world!
I hope you enjoy ✨
This is a fascinating piece and very worth reading.
I adore monarch

Promo image of the cover of Lauren C. Teffeau's book Accelerated Growth Environment featuring two women and a robot in the foreground of a massive ecological habitat full of plants and water with an explosion in the distance. The following quote overlays the image: "High-tech, high-ecology, and high-tension family and work relationships all combine in a stunning new story from Lauren C. Teffeau. This adventure for humanity’s future survival will win your heart and your mind!" —Fran Wilde, Nebula-winning author of Updraft, the Gemworld series, and A Philosophy of Thieves

Anyway, s/o to all the techbros today. No love.
The other day, a reader wrote that they’d noticed there isn’t a Worldwide Web in A PHILOSOPHY OF THIEVES. Just a city feed.
They were brilliant and asked if all the cities & enclaves were like that.
Me: yup.
Them: why?
Me: Safer. Internet’s haunted.
