fucked up thing is revelations 2 is still the most run resident evil game
as a corporate interest Umbrella clearly fails, but as a loosely connected group of black market weapons dealers they seem to do great business. any terror group can get enough Hunters to quarantine or destroy a city
yeah even among Eureka players i am definitely an outlier but with the right game and group it emerges pretty naturally
i've been playing a lot of Eureka recently and the enforced player/character separation makes character romances really easy and fun. romance has been an element in at least half the games i've played in. a session last week included an investigator threesome
We just finally finished another one of our Eureka quick start videos, Character Creation.

i've been playing a lot of Eureka lately and the game is so good that our regular sessions have started being recorded to share around. our games in the official server have also been attracting like half a dozen spectators at a time. mechanics are great, people love to see them!
four reviews. The middle two are blank but are still 5-stars. The first and last ones read: absolutely fantastic best investigative ttrpg system i've every played!
A few reviews for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy. It helps us immensely if you leave a 5-star review for Eureka by going to the top-right of the store page! (As seen here you don't even have to write anything.) this is one of the rating systems where anything below a 5-star counts as negative.
Taking Names When not debilitated by iron or their true name, a fairy can take possession of a person’s name.[1] The person cannot be a fairy themselves, and must “give” their name voluntarily, though they need not fully understand the consequences of this action. The fairy must take the full true name of the victim for this to work, and a fairy will know when they attempt this if they have not been given the full true name. [1 off to the side in the final formatting] A fairy does not have to take possession of someone’s name to use name-based magic such as curses or spiriting away on them, they just have to know the name. A fairy can relinquish possession of a person’s name or voice and return it to them at any time, from any place. However, they cannot attempt to return a name or voice that is in the possession of a different fairy or changeling.
The process of giving one’s name could be anything from a formal signed contract detailing the transfer, to speaking one’s full name in response to the simple request, “Can I have your name,” to handing over a physical nametag or piece of paper with one’s full true name written on it. It is up to the fairy if they actually want to take the name or not. If they do, write the person’s full true name in the fairy’s inventory. A person whose name has been taken in this manner will forget their own name, and will not respond to it when called by it. If they learn their true name again by any means, (reading it, being told, etc.), they will have trouble understanding that it is supposed to be their name, and will forget it soon after. A fairy can take possession of a person’s voice in the same way, and could even take both a name and a voice from the same person. A person whose voice has been taken is unable to speak, while the fairy in possession of it can speak in the taken voice at will. A voice must be voluntarily “given” in the same manner as a name, though it isn’t always as easy to pull off on an unwitting target, since there aren’t as many conventions of speech for giving voices as giving names.
Using Names So long as a person is missing their name, they cannot be affected by name-based magic, such as curses or being spirited away.[1] If someone attempts to use this magic, it will instead affect the fairy in possession of the name. [1 off to the side in the final formatting] They could still be spirited away by touch, which does not require a true name. Fairies cannot be spirited away at all, regardless of the true name. If a curse is put on a fairy through any of the names in their possession, they may instantly transfer that curse to any name they possess, and then return that name (along with the curse) to the original owner. A fairy can truthfully answer with any name in their possession when asked their name.
Spiriting Away Sometimes, a fairy wants someone to just go away forever - and they do. When not debilitated by iron or their true name, a fairy can cause a non-fairy target to (seemingly) simply pop out of existence.[1] Spiriting away requires a Powers Composure Roll and counts as a Movement. The fairy must know the target’s full true name, must be able to see them, and must be within 5 feet of them.[2] [1 off to the side in the final formatting] Or at least out of this existence. [2 off to the side in the final formatting] A lot of a fairy’s powers hinge on them knowing someone’s “full true name.” What exactly is meant by a person’s “full true name” is a matter of discussion between player and Narrator, but as a general guideline, this means every part of their name. If a person is named Jeremy Matthew Jones IV, then “Jeremy Matthew Jones IV” is needed, and just “Jeremy Jones” or “Jeremy M. Jones.” Nicknames also do not generally count. A fairy cannot make their magic work by just guessing a person’s true name, they have to know the name with certainty. This can be done without the fairy knowing the full true name of the target. However, in this case, the target must make voluntary skin-to-skin contact with the fairy.[1] If the contact is extremely brief (e.g. a high-five), the fairy must make a Full Success on a Reflexes check to use this power.
Just in time for the upcoming Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy update release (follow us on itchio for a notification at the exact time it comes out on August 22nd 2025), we finished overhauling both the Fairy Trait and the Changeling Trait. #ttrpg #ttrpgtalk #indiettrpg #rpg

i just finished a EUREKA campaign where i played a vampire investigator named Florence. she was a standoffish, hyper-individualistic flapper girl trapped in a manor with a dysfunctional family in the 1920s and the stress was making it hard for her to function (there are mechanics for this.) so she ended up drinking from several people during the night (there are mechanics for this too). another investigator called Manya (a skeptical resolute matter-of-fact jewish biologist) discovered she was a vampire after they got into some scrapes together. Manya (due to private personality traits of her own (there are mechanics for this)) decided to trust her and keep her secret, and it looked like they might be friends. there was a hilarious scene where Florence got "stuck" in a well, which Manya knew full well she could walk right out of, but wouldn't because the other investigators were around. (in EUREKA players don't know things their investigators don't know. there are (surprisingly good) mechanics for this.) until Florence killed and ate a young child (she was hungry). when the crime was discovered, Manya was ousted by the other investigators for allowing this to happen. she set out into the woods with her elephant gun to hunt Florence down. she considered it her duty to put this monster in the ground, to keep her from eating anyone else.
so when Florence approached her flippantly, nonthreateningly, and told her openly and honestly what it was like to be a vampire (and hinted at what she had discovered about the mystery), Manya hesitated. they had several traumatic conversations over the course of the mystery: about morality, and hunger, and guilt, and repentance, and how much it's okay to take from others in order to survive. they conspired against one another. they were utterly dependent on each other. they shared some really fucked up hugs. they were completely terrible for each other. surviving together meant compromising everything that was true about themselves. they saved the day. but the remained outcasts to the other characters. with her blessing, Florence drank from Manya's elbow, and used that strength to pick her up and carry her off into the night. Florence drank from seven different people over the course of the campaign- including three main NPCs and one PC. her existence shattered the party and completely changed the course of the game. but the game wasn't about her vampirism. each of the other, human PCs had equally rich inner lives and made important, character-defining choices which collectively contributed to solving the mystery. there are mechanics for this. this was the greatest campaign of a ttrpg i have ever experienced. EUREKA does vampires in particular (and fucked up characters in general) better than any game i have ever played. i cannot recommend it highly enough.

Crafty Games got the license to produce the Mistborn Adventure Game in 2011 and it's basically all the ttrpg material they published since besides a few Fantasycraft classes and gargoyles for Spycraft. now they've lost the license and all those books have been removed from dtrpg
brandon sanderson is my eternal enemy because the Mistborn ttrpg is one of the reasons Fantasycraft stopped getting support

How do you play Eureka? No no, not just "what are the rules?", HOW do you play Eureka?
When sitting down to a new game, knowing exactly what the rules are is only half the understanding, because for a TTRPG, you have to apply those rules yourself.
If anyone is still intimidated by the size of the Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy rulebook, I counted and confirmed 437 of 737 pages consist entirely of roll tables, lists, and character options, leaving only 300 pages of actual rules rules. #ttrpg #indierpg

the guinea pig 2: flower of flesh and blood method where the victim is drugged to replace pain with pleasure is cheating but also effective in turning dismemberment into an act of surreal beauty
One of the smartest, tightest games I think I've ever played. The mechanics (particularly the titular Eureka! and composure) are honestly genius and really encourage players to get in-tune with their characters and explore the world. Cannot recommend highly enough, especially with the modules!

Freddy vs Jason actually came up with some good reasons for different kinds of slashers to work together but i'm not sure how wide it can go. a coterie of slashers building a territory in a world that's aware of their existence late Nightmare or first act of Jason X style
Doing research for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy has shown me that bears smell 7x better than bloodhounds. Which is not surprising because when we had a bloodhound he STUNK.

I think when people get incredulous about Eureka having combat rules despite being investigation-based what they're imagining is the party is investigating when they encounter 1D6 mobsters or vampires they have to wordlessly fight for an hour of session time to get EXP then go back to investigating.
