Because of this issue, I switched to RustRover. Now I happily manage to have FireFox (at least 4 tabs, including some Burn docs), one or two Konsole terminals, Dolphin, and a System Monitor in under 10GB. Before, my 16GB system would choke on compiles. Now, no problem.

If you listen carefully, you can see that Trump has only "reversed himself" in the way an abusive husband/boyfriend "reverses himself" by bringing flowers after a beating. Not sincere and won't change.

Deepseek and Claude have both been mildly helpful with my Rust questions. Despite not having perfect answers, their errors and suggestions can help point in the right direction. Less helpful for recently updated crates, obviously.
Financially, I think the price of US Treasuries would crash (over supply of bond sellers), interest rates would go up rapidly in the US (who is going to buy a new bond at a low interest rate when they can buy a cheap, older bond at a higher effective rate), and the USD would take off, temporarily.

Capturing (Kidnapping) a foreign leader is an act of war. I'm sure that the U.S. would consider capturing Trump to be an act of war. I'm also sure Trump feels secure knowing that U.S. might gives any other country pause. This act has made clear that "might is right" is new U.S. foreign policy.
I also think a good IDE with AI enabled makes a big difference. Rust Rover, VSCode, and Zed all seem pretty good. Don't use the AI to offload writing code. Instead, use it as a teacher to ask targeted questions and small code snippets when necessary.
Well, in my case, I decided to try to learn Rust a third time. I don't think I've reached even "moderate expertise" level but I am competently putting together a bio-oriented Neural net & using the Burn Tensor crate, so not bad. But this time use this text: rust-book.cs.brown.edu. It helps.

I switched to JetBrains RustRover a few weeks ago. Fast, smaller footprint than VSCode, and free for noncommercial. Very nice so far.

Many expats like propane space heaters to take off morning/evening chill. We use microwave reheatable "magic" bags and a lap blanket. Keeping active helps a lot (we do three 90-minute tai chi classes per week and walk almost everywhere).

Jobs in Ecuador don't pay much; minimum wage is $435USD per month and teachers make $800 - $1500 per month. If she can find an online teaching job that's probably better. Of course a couple can live (fairly frugally) in Cuenca on $1500 - 2,000 / month.

At a slightly higher level than directly coding Cuda, I've recently been using the Tensor part of the Burn AI crate to code some alternate approaches to the standard backpropagating neural nets. It's fast, clean, and not strictly tried to Cuda.
Cuenca, Ecuador, at 8,000 feet above sea level has a very moderate, "eternal Spring" climate with water drinkable out of the tap. It's quite a modern, and cosmopolitan city with a walkable, small-city feel. About 10,000 expats call it home.
As someone who has lived in Ecuador for the past 12 years, Ecuadorian cacao is simply the best in the world.
