why is chronic, often disabling, leg pain considered a better medical outcome than a limb difference? i think the reasoning is that chronic pain is easy to ignore because it’s often not visible, but a limb difference is highly visible. it’s ableism, basically.

People who regret knee replacements often cite chronic pain that they struggle to get treated. meanwhile people with limb differences of the legs typically have an incredible quality of life. but the loss of a limb is considered an inherent failure in treatment in the medical establishment
