Final Fantast 14 fan artwork of my Warrior of Light, Eshii, and my rendition of Azem. The two are suspended in darkness, Azem situated below, and Eshii situated above. They’re illuminated by the glow of the Azem crystal suspended between them, and situated between the cracked and broken pieces of my rendition of Azem’s mask. Each of their eyes are fixed on the crystal between the cracked mask, connecting their shared soul. Elpis flower petals glow along each of their faces, connecting their shared hope for the future. Azem’s expression is relaxed but knowing as she gazes up at the crystal between the broken mask, signifying that she is at peace with the end of her chapter as Azem of the Convocation of Fourteen. Eshii’s expression is more alert, curious, and generally joyful as she gazes at the crystal, signifying that she is ready to embrace the adventures ahead as the Warrior of Light and the bearer of Azem’s crystal. Azem’s place below and Eshii’s place above represent Azem’s willingness to relinquish her future and “fall away” so that Eshii can “rise” from that to her own future. This is just my perception of the game’s story! Obviously, Azem is a mysterious figure that we don’t know everything about, but in my mind, Azem knows and loves her “veritable star,” Eshii enough to want her to have that adventure :)

I like to think Azem knew all along how it’d shake out and loved the WoL so much, they said, “I’m okay with giving up this chapter if it means they get to start theirs.”
