Frog on a gravel road
Take care driving along country lanes at dusk β there may be frogs or toads crossing the road. Some amphibians travel up to a mile, on a mission to return to their ancestral ponds to breed. Or join a toad patrol to help them cross safely!

Litter picking isnβt just good for the environment β it brings people together, gets us out in nature, and is a fantastic way to show love for your community. Can you tidy some litter with Keep Britain Tidy this #GBSpringClean?

New Forest curlew becomes the oldest living bird of its species in the UK
A female curlew at the centre of a study by @GWCT.org.uk has broken the UK longevity record at the age of nearly 34. Initially ringed as a juvenile on Brownsea Island in September 1992, she would have hatched that summer.
Abietinella abietina - scarce pleurocarp moss and indicator of high-quality calcareous grassland. St Catherine's Hill. It looks like a mini fir tree and is pale green with browner marking in middle and lower parts
Aloina aloides - growing on gravel alongside a path in Winchester city centre. This tiny moss has leaves arranged in a star shape. The leaves are fleshy-looking, and opaque
Scleropodium cespitans - growing on hard substrate in Winchester city centre. Looks completely different when hydrated compared to when dry. It typically grows in extensive, almost pure, dense, usually low and fairly flat patches. The curved, or even arched branches often lie in the same direction, forming thick mats. Shoots are typically 1β2 cm long. The moss is green and looks like it is platted.
Rue-leaved Saxifrage - young plants appearing in pavement cracks around Winchester. Each leaf looks like it has three toes/fingers
Our Billy is exploring Winchester and noting #PavementPlants and mosses! Rue-leaved Saxifrage starting to appear, Scleropodium cespitans, Aloina aloides in the city and Abietinella abietina on St Catherine's Hill

The solution? Buy less, wear longer, repair, swap, and choose circular fashion.
