‘Alien: Earth’ Renewed as Noah Hawley Inks New Overall Deal at FX, Disney Entertainment TV
The series is set to go back into production in 2026 in London.
Unsurprisingly, Alien Earth has been renewed for a second season, which will be filmed near London in 2026.
A new overall deal will see showrunner Noah Hawley broaden his scope to all of Disney Entertainment TV, which also includes ABC and Hulu Originals. So more Alien, but probably Fargo too 🤞

Plea to restore tomb of man who invented the saxophone
Campaigners want help to repair the resting place of Adolphe Sax, the inventor behind one of music’s most treasured instruments
"Sax was famously accident prone. He was left in a coma after falling down stairs aged 2, poisoned himself twice, swallowed a needle, was hit by a gunpowder explosion, put in a coma again by a falling roof tile and fished out of a river unconscious at the age of ten"

The curse of ‘Disco Elysium’, the greatest RPG ever made
How the success of a singular video game led to crises for almost all its creators
For the FT this weekend, I wrote about the foundation and fallout of Disco Elysium: how two Estonian novelists' successes and failures in literature led to the creation of a video game masterpiece, and an endless font of strife.

Playwright Alan Bennett: ‘I have a fear of books’
Now publishing his fourth collection of diaries, the 91-year-old legend of British letters talks about shyness, ‘feeling every minute’ of his age and the surprise of finding love
"Two things one seldom hears about getting older: one’s ears get larger and one’s dick gets smaller."
@emmavj.bsky.social interviews reluctant national treasure Alan Bennett, who observes that if he stabbed Judi Dench with a pitchfork, "I should still be a teddy bear".

You once explained the dilemma of journalists who dare to ask the tough questions, “If you duff them up, they won’t come back.”
I suspect Shawn McCreesh of NYT will get his WH pass revoked for this but at least he’s highlighted the timidity of his colleagues.

In 500 years time the Phantom Menace will be studied as the epic of its time, recording a true history of events.
Clearly it was an amalgam of multiple writers though - no single person could write a story of such genius.

The Lady in Red is a fantastic film: great performances, beautifully shot, a whip-smart script by John Sayles and to cap it all, an awesome car chase!
It's also free to view in the UK on tubi:

A stop-motion animated fairy tale for adults about two factions, the White Mice and the Creatures Who Dwell Under the Oak, fighting for a prized doll.
You can watch this little gem of a film on Tubi, if you like surreal fables of oppression, female commodification, violence and obsession - told through the medium folk horror and cute woodland creatures.

Stop threatening me with a good time.
