That must be a gap in the genealogy education market. Maybe you need to fill it (but I totally understand how it would be nice to just attend a class rather than teach it).

Especially with the professional genealogy symposium hosted by @apgenealogists.bsky.social as well.

Really looking forward to this class (zoom and in person) and hope some of you will join us in person for the workshop where you get to put into practice what we talk about.

Next up @Connections2025 is @mghistorical.com talking about the 1863 voyage of the Mermaid.
Always a good start to the day when you're booking speaking for 2026r.
Not to mention @miagen.bsky.social and I have something special planned for 9 May 2025 with a new one day hands-on workshop.

One part of me wants to celebrate, and another part hopes this isn't ruining an assessment project.

There will likely be an update as the client is now going to travel to the UK to visit some of the places etc.
But the good news is the file has just gone to the publisher. πΎ
#GenHour
Can't we have both...

It's a fabulous way to find material that has been at FamilySearch for years but that you might not have picked up on with the bonus of being able to search the names within the records.
#GenHour
How come when you're just about to publish a family history book you find new material... that's what it's been like the last couple of weeks. Helped by the Family Search Full Text Search.
#GenHour
I have a couple of those.
What's a shame, is that those (and birthday books) that we all used to have are now replaced by phones in which you just overwrite the new address.
Another source future genealogists won't have. Bring back paper!
#GenHour
That's a source we don't often use for research.
#GenHour
The one I researched had drawings as well.
They're also a great way to find out who was in the FAN network in the branch of the family, which can lead to all sorts of interesting research.

I got the chance to research some family heirlooms for a TV series here in NZ. One was an autograph book and since the show aired, so many people have told me about their autograph books. As a bonus a cousin bought one from our family to show me too, which I didn't know existed.

This is such a fantastic project.
Julia Bradshaw at Canterbury Museum is working on a project with regard to female miners on the goldfields. She may be interested in your project.

Yes... now I'm following up all the daughters and their marriages. Handy knowing their married name.

I have a friend whose family did similar but with a film from NZ to England. She'd love to find it now, but thinks it was mixed up with a group of other films and donated to an organisation (but just not sure which one).

That moment when you find the document that you never knew existed and which proved a theory. I go that twice this week. One will for a client and one naturalisation (for me).
Roll on next week.

I think that might be a Remarkable. @miagen.bsky.social was showing us her device at the retreat.
Off to count ancestors.

As we get ready for this weekends Escape to the Past Retreat, @miagen.bsky.social and I are already planning 2025's retreat in the UK.
Imagine family history with no distractions.

I wish we had census registers in New Zealand. Ours were destroyed.
#GenHour
Thanks.
I have a free guide on my website that gives you a family history file structure if that helps. I use the same structure for physical and digital files.

PS. Did you know the boxes from wine make really good boxes for the storage of A5 size books.
You need at least one to inherit all the paperwork and computer files.
Once I had my files organised one of our children said they would now take the paperwork (if it had remained in piles it was going out in the rubbish π).
#GenHour #FamilyHistory
Great choice. It's in the box.
#GenHour #BookSky
That's just the question I'm asking as I load up books for our retreat. Which ones should I take.
New Zealand Electoral Atlas by Alan McRobie, is always a go to on my shelf.
#GenHour #ETTP #FamilyHistory
Woo hoo... it's the Escape to the Past Retreat this weekend.
Trying to work out which books the genies might want to use off my shelf and not making the boxes too heavy to carry.
What's your go to book for family history?
