Sundar Pichai told a judge today that DOJ's proposal to spin off Chrome browser is “so far-reaching” that it is a “de facto divestiture” of its search engine. Pichai also decried data sharing, ads syndication remedy as it would leave no value Google's IP.

Looks like Judge Amit Mehta is thoroughly fed up of the #USvGoogle remedy trial. Just before Sundar Pichai was called to the stand as a witness, the judge said to his court staff, "Can't believe we did 9 weeks of this last time." 😂😂
Erm, judge? It was 10 weeks, not nine.
Thank you, Simonetta!
Mark Zuckerberg was so "worried" and even thought it was "scary" to see Facebook being "so far behind" Instagram in 2012 that he solicited advice on paying a lot of money to buy the small, yet established competitor, FTC
trial hot docs showed.

Over the past 24 hours, former FTC commissioner Josh Wright settled a defamation lawsuit against Elyse Dorsey and dropped the same claims against Angela Landry (both former students/colleagues had accused him of sexual misconduct in 2023). A March 10 trial in Fairfax has been shelved.
FTC Chair Khan discussing Meta's rollback on fact-checking: Calls out the problem with a "single company or single executive" making decisions about everyone's speech as a market issue and warns of "sweetheart deals" by execs w/ Trump, especially ahead of Meta's antitrust case
Today was Jonathan Kanter's last day as DOJ #antitrust chief. In an exit interview with MLex, he discussed DOJ’s prolific monopolization lawsuits and abandonment of bad #mergers and what he termed an “insidious influence” of corporate-funded research.

Please add me. Thanks!
We now have a trial date for DOJ’s adtech #monopoly lawsuit against @Google in the “rocket docket” of Eastern District of Virginia.
Sept 9, 2024.
Six months later, on March 31, 2025, a @TXAG led #antitrust adtech suit v Google will go to trial in Texas (also a rocket docket).
I wish the judiciary could understand the role of reporters covering trials. A timely, much-needed piece by
on public access hurdles in the government's high-profile Google #antitrust trial in the US.
