Happy New Year Doom-Comune!
May 2026 be a slow year in #collapse for you, and if it isn't, then remember the other 10m species who can't wait for us to get on with it.

Only Israelis could spend two years committing genocide and then demand everyone feel very, very sorry for them on the anniversary their genocide started.
Israel is a nation that exists because of violence, cultivates violence, teaches violence and raises war criminals. It is time for the world to stand up to Israel
BREAKING: Over a thousand people gather in Trafalgar Square to oppose genocide and the Palestine Action ban.
Police have already started arresting peaceful protestors under the Terrorism Act for silently holding signs which say "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action"
The scarier thing is, the way that heating is accelerating with the loss of Earth's albedo (partly due to the phasing out of dirty fossil fuels), we could even see 3ยบC warming and up to 4bn dead by 2050. #wasf
richardcrim.substack.com/p/the-crisis...
Understatement of the day so far.
How about 4 billion deaths by 2050 (according to the Institute of Actuaries) if we continue on the current accelerated heating trend and hit 3ยบC by then.

Beauty sustains us. #nature is everything.
Seeing the world as it is is neither cause for depression or for celebtration. Those responses are choices we make, choices that cannot alter reality but may allow those who choose radical honesty to live with themselves more fully.
William E Rees talks about this collective delusion in this piece from the other day.

A line graph of atmospheric CO2 over 45 million years. Levels trend downward and remain below 300 ppm, until the far right edge where a near-vertical spike shows todayโs level above 420 ppm, far higher and rising faster than any past fluctuation.
56 million years ago, Earth had a carbon surge called the PETM. It drove 5โ8 ยฐC of warming, acidified oceans, wiped out marine life, and took 200,000 years to recover. Today weโre dumping COโ 10ร faster. The planet will recover againโbut humanity wonโt.

"A new report from the ... Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) reveals that 7 of the 9 critical Earth system boundaries have now been breached, one more than last year."

Excellent piece by Prof William E Rees about the Maximum Power Principle and our capacity for self (and collective) delusion.

For those keeping track (and who isn't?), the planet is now at day 3 at 1.65C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline.
While MSM sells outrage 24/7 with Kimmel, Tylenol, Putin, Israel... collapse just doesn't make the cut. Do folks care about the end of everything anymore?
The daily crapture keeps me close to Bog
Always remember that politicians work for big business not the general public, so the rights of shareholders to make a bit more money is prioritised over life on Earth. Seems sensible.
Unfortunately this won't end until the whole delusion that is modern civilisation collapses.

We are all enthralled to the false god of technology, with the tech billionaires being the high priests, and the collective delusion that it will bring us salvation.
Iโm still waiting for a critique of โdoomersโ that isnโt dripping with strawman arguments, shallow optimism, and tone policing.
Grief and realism get dismissed as defeatism, while critics wrap their own emotional discomfort in moral superiority.
This is literally nauseating ๐คฎ
Slower warming โ cooling!
Be careful, with that talk youยดll get people thinking doomism is a sect again, ruining all the work we've done improving those secret handshakes.
BTW who is today's sacrificial lamb? Metaphorically or otherwise.
Another great piece, & thanks for the added bonus of learning more about pumpkins!
The more we learn about the biosphere with its millions of years of evolution & adaptation, the more we should apply that knowledge to human systems rather than our blind faith in the pseudoscience that is economics.
One of the most annoying arguments for me of late are those who use history as a source of hopium, especially the 'civilisations have collapsed before but humanity has always made it through' crowd.
Yeah, the book is now on my list. IMO it was a shame the interview drifted somewhat into solutionism - the false belief that humans have the ability to solve the miriad of predicaments we face!
