Today at school
I like using AI, and I have my students use it from time to time. My guess would be about 2x a quarter. But I am pretty well versed in the different tools. How I see a lot of teachers using it is similar to other tech around 2018-2022βlack of meaningful integration and for a cheap way to engage
picture of Beloved by Toni Morrison on a desk
Hey you! Find a copy of Beloved by Toni Morrison and read it along with @heymrsbond.com and I in February, one chapter a dayβstarting a week from today! #BelovedFebruary
(Reading in community feels like exactly the thing we need right now, right?)
As Iβm consuming more in Substack, and less elsewhere, I decided to start creating and sharing as well. Hope to see you there! #EduSky

@tommullaney.bsky.social is my go to when I need the other perspective or when considering if Iβm harming students with AI.
Do I use AI? Yep! Do my students use AI? They do. But I am trying to become increasingly aware of how I use AI and the risk and potential harm.
Pondering of the day: @tommullaney.bsky.social with the manipulation of media happening and shutting down of public dissemination of research (ie: FDA, health orgs), any thoughts on how this will increase the bias and disinformation provided by AI and chatbots?

Got this gift just in time for #TechTshirtTuesday! Thanks @wewillwrite.bsky.social
Overheard 7th graders today talking about Weezer. I did in fact graduate with their parents.
I no longer have self-contained classes of 6-8th graders and am expected to teach all three grade levels and all subjects at once for these special education studentsβa positive change to mix in with all the neutral and negative
It communicates to students βI have shown progression up to x point when assessed with choice and feedbackβ and when given a more βstandardizedβ assessment I show understanding at x level. This has helped me look at student data through different lenses but I know probably needs more fleshing out
I have two grading categories. Assignments and Assessments. Assessments are 30% (school mandate). I tell students assessments are what mirrors state tests. I provide students grades for individual standards. I replace grades for all assignments. Itβs not perfect, but 1/2
Thanks. This may not be the final version. It has been helpful for myself, but also when considering consistency and refinement with a grade level PLC.
Standard Progression. Table that shows the definitions at each progression and what students can and cannot do
Progression chart filled out with names and dates
Iβve focused a lot this year on how to assess student progress towards a standard & track that data for better conversations with Ss. Here is a current iteration of the work. Thanks @mrrablin.bsky.social for sharing your progressions which got me started on this idea. #iteachEnglish #EduSky
π hi, me!
Thanks for sharing, I'm excited to take a look
I am working on a presentation on how instructional technology can support the science of reading and high-quality instructional materials at the secondary level. Do any English teachers have resources gained from #NCTE or in their collections that may be helpful? #iteachEnglish #EduSky
Would love to be included, thank you!
