Iβm totally going to get this (or the lucky d20) for my nephew!
Iβm totally going to get this (or the lucky d20) for my nephew!
My late-teen aged son got into a kick of binge-watching Frontline during winter break for a few years. When we hit the 80s it was a memory lane of horribles!
I often say that just about everything wrong with this country & why we canβt have nice things is either Reagan or racism. And that Venn diagram is nearly a circle.
I believe this ties in to the whole Regan era βlazy government employeeβ trope and demonstrates that line is transparently racist.
I came here to say pretty much this... Obama's grandmother's ancestors were basically all here by the early 1800s.
"People could face misdemeanor charges just for driving to work. " ... or for driving to the DMV to get a new license to conform to the law!
Not nearly as dire, but I am still so offended by the way that dropped that poor teen-aged Target employee at a Walmart 10 miles away, after beating him up, once they figured out they couldn't detain him. Not meant to kill (that time), but definitely meant to torment and to be so stupidly petty.
Autocorrect has been on a quest to make me sound illiterate for the last year or so. I usually only catch it when someone replies to my texts and I re-read what I sent.
And artichokes⦠when you harvest it, it tries to kill you and the only way to eat it is steamed and dipped in butter or mayonnaise. Who figured that out?
A couple of years ago, when NPR modified their annual tradition by tweeting the Declaration of Independence, they got tons of hate mail for being too political and for attacking Trump.

If a traffic stop is enough to reduce voter participation, what will a heavily armed military presence do?

Except the whites only half time show is objectively worse!
Sheβs a good egg.
I gasped out loud when I heard this plan. I am still beyond devastated that the country walked away from this.
βWhy we build the wallβ gave me chills in the wake of Trump 1.0. Given that it was first released in 2010, it was downright prophetic. It only gets more so with each passing day.
I have been drawing this parallel all day.
Given the level of support the 2A types showed Philando Castile⦠yup, they seem to only want gun rights for people who look and think like them.
The vitriol towards βrace traitorsβ has been on my mind. I think the admin thinks that MN βshouldβ be white and immigrants are ruining that and that white people βshouldβ be upset. When MN people actually appreciate the diversity, that makes the racists extra mad.
Sign reads: βWE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE TRAINED COPS CAN PANIC & ACT ON IMPULSE BUT UNTRAINED CIVILIANS UuST REMAIN CALM W/A GUN IN THEIR FACEβ
Yes! I think of this sign frequently.
People of color, LGBTQ folks, Jews & Muslims in the US, and others have real experience differentiating between slight βdiscomfortβ and actual danger.
It seems like the women in this bar need to be uncomfortable more often to learn the difference.
I think some people should get used to the idea that they might occasionally be uncomfortable. A gay man or a βGay AFβ T-shirt might make you uncomfortable. Fine. But you are surrounded by people who are demographically like you, in a place where you are certainly physically safe.
Organized gangs of wine moms know who exactly is bringing cheese, who is bringing dessert and who is hosting the next get-together.
Do they know that a swear word is not an actual bomb that explodes and kills people? Maybe thatβs the confusion over damage & scale?
Fire ripped through Jackson's only synagogue on Saturday, heavily damaging the historic house of worship in what authorities say was an act of arson.
Beth Israel synagogue, the largest in Mississippi, has long been a target of antisemites. It was the site of a Ku Klux Klan bombing in 1967.
Right?!? That book was such an important part of my college experience in the early 1990s (at least my sophomore year, anyway!) I had to double-check Wikipedia to make sure it wasnβt some other Naomi Wolf who went off the deep end!
Those would be the little piggies that went to market, I suppose.
To be fair, I know how to spell his name, but Apple autocorrect βhelpfullyβ adds or strongly suggests the extra βeβ.
They really should have a pact: if one reporter is attacked like this, the next should drop their own question and instead say βfollowing up on Ms Scottβs questionβ¦β and so on. Even if it means that in the whole press conference there is exactly 1 question and no answer.
This is obviously not the point, but I believe that all Americans should be required to watch at least the first few seasons of Northern Exposure. That's going in my platform for when I rule the world.
The actor is Nick Offerman and by all accounts, he's a good egg. He's a gruff wood-worker, but also super supportive.
His character on Parks & Rec was all sorts of problematic, but I don't recall any racism or sexism, and was tough but supportive in his own way.
