Black and white art. a bunch of small birds noisily chasing after a big eagle which is rushing away from them down towards the bottom of the page.
This is bird mobbing: the behavior where small prey Birds en masse attack a predator like a hawk or an eagle. By rushing at the predator making lots of noise they can often scare the predator away and occasionally kill it. see the link in the next post.

Unsurprisingly, I’ve had ‘em both for a while here, but I love observing the bsky wave of spring firsts as a personalized real-time remote experience of the latitudinal tide of springtime’s joys.

Imagine my cackle of delight when I found the plastic bird skull 10 yards from the blood bottle

Same. Sitka is magical, even though I only saw it during a work trip. I may not be a SEAK local anymore, but I’ll return sometime to take a nice, slow milk run.

This is a very powerful place. Even if things are not being gentle with me right now, I'm happy that I'm here, and it feels like I'll be ready for whatever happens next.

A few days ago I lay down in the arroyo and fell asleep on the warm silt, and dreamed I was seeping into the earth and expanding outward, as if I were part of the seasonal river itself, but also living roots questing deep into the subterranean waters. I woke up feeling surprised that I woke up.

I returned to the high desert to process grief, revisit crossroads, and perhaps metamorphosize once again, and for some reason it's REALLY taking it out of me this time. Since I got here I keep thinking "I just gotta make it through the next week," and then new weeks keep just cropping up.

TO BE FAIR, this is the same establishment where, in recent history, literal guns have been drawn over this (and other) shiz, so I am justifiably concerned about escalation. And yeah, sometimes I do wake up wondering why I’m working there, but maybe it’s for moments like today’s.

Today at the convenience store I ran into a lady I’d met while bartending, and she was like, “You cut me off last week!” I was ready for a confrontation, but her tone changed and she hugged me. “It was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you.”

Today’s unexpected validation & gratification 🍻
