Mayor presses to move forward with 'bubble bylaw' despite Charter concerns | CBC News Ciry staff had previously said it would be prudent to wait for courts to rule on other cities' bylaws, while civil liberties group says police already have powers to ensure safety.

This is fraught terrain Mayor Sutcliffe. Police already have ample powers to restrict protests at schools, hospitals & places of worship when needed. Anything further needs very careful study. Court challenges elsewhere already pending. Don't rush this.

The Alberta government has issued a new plan for combatting "gender-based violence."

Interesting choice to note the high rates of gender-based violence against LGBTQ2S+ people, even as the AB government pushes policy that itself leads to more of that violence 🤔

I see it as good! I have a strong feeling her mandate letter will focus a lot on women entrepreneurs.

However, I think she'll be collaborative across the women's rights and gender justice sector for other issues like reproductive justice, GBV, etc.

Yes, there is a world where a Minister for Women's and Gender Equality exists in Cabinet with a mandate that is not "feminist".

Under a more centrist/centre-right Liberal party, it would be unsurprising #cdnpoli

All eyes focused on PM Carney's cabinet announcement and a potential WAGE Ministerial role 🤞🏿

If this ends up a win for the sector, that mandate letter will absolutely be combed with a fine tooth comb.

We reflected on the implications of this decision amidst the backdrop of #CSW69, highlighted the mobilization of feminist organizations, and discussed the urgent call for reinstatement of the dedicated ministerial role with accountability from political leaders.

PM Carney, when asked by a journalist about his faith, just said he absolutely supports a woman's right to choose as the Liberal Party "always has - proudly and consistently".
