Elon Musk is now worth $845 billion.

Tesla reported paying ZERO federal income tax on $5.7 billion of U.S. income in 2025.

Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and household debt has risen to a record high.

See the problem here?

There's a reason I'm writing a paper titled LLMs as Artificial Sophistry

It was a lie, not an opinion. A blatant and obvious lie. Something he knew was a lie. And not just another one of the hundreds of lies he tells every day - a lie about the killing of at least 175 people, mostly girls who were attending school. bsky.app/profile/acyn...

If the Dems who win in the 2026 midterms get squeamish about prosecuting this administration, we'll need to elect a bunch of new people running on Nuremberg shit for 2028. This isn't a joke. It's the law. It's justice. Biden let Trump back in the WH and this happened because Joe didn't do his job

I hate how true this is, and how many times I think about this post every time I read the news.

Increasingly of the opinion that the correct answer to the Trolley Problem is "fuck you, why are you so fixated on finding reasons to justify killing people?"

Or expecting me to fix them and not taking ownership and seeing their active role in their care—that I can’t make them better if they don’t do the work. That treatment is not a passive thing that happens to you. Especially for my speciality, and DGBIs. I’m their partner not their parent or god.

The only time I get frustrated with my patients is when they aren’t helping me help — like canceling visits but sending me messages that things aren’t working and wanting another solution, when we need to talk it out to figure out the best next step. Or treating me like a vending machine for orders

But I make a point to say these things, because it’s not what people expect and it’s not what they have usually experienced. Especially my IBS patients. I tell them all the time, I’m not going to tell you “welp, sucks for you, have a nice life” if what I thought would help doesn’t help them.

Because if they cant do the plan, for any reason, then we need to figure out what the barrier is and find a better solution. They’re not getting graded. We’re here to work with them to find the best solution for them.

I actually make a point to tell my patients all the time:
1) if what we try first isn’t working, I want to know, and that failed trial helps us get closer to the right thing.
2) if there’s part of the plan they weren’t able to do before our next visit, don’t postpone; we should find a better plan.

I think that I’m used to everything on this show feeling really real and accurate that these choices around downtime this season feel even more irritating to me, because I’m not used to seeing them do stuff that 100% would never happen that way.

08.03.2026 06:55 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Also, they wouldn’t just turn off computers with literally NO warning. Also the hospital under a cyber attack would clearly also just be following downtime procedures during it. Ie the same thing they just made The Pitt do without the attack and with all the rerouted patients? Make it make sense.

08.03.2026 06:55 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

There is always a downtime plan, and part of that includes the ability to check patient information still offline, from backups. We don’t just suddenly lose everything if there’s not someone with a photographic memory.

08.03.2026 06:55 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

The most unrealistic thing on The Pitt so far is a hospital not having a fax machine already functioning and being used daily. Faxes still happen constantly, all the time. Toner is not dead. The second most unrealistic thing is that there’s no down time computer. There obviously is.

Human beings ascribe motive and malice to inanimate objects all the time, too. My son actively thinks my iPad wants him to lose any game he plays on it and yells at things he trips over. We have a difficult to abandon animist core in our brains that USED to be a necessary survival instinct.

This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.

Sundas (Sunny) Naqv has been freed. U.S. citizen, born in Evanston, IL, held by ICE for–44 hours?–after friends, family, reporters, and folks from the internet stayed up overnite trying to find her.

Changing CBP stories about Naqv:

Every anti-vaxxer I encounter seems to love weird unregulated supplements. They hate Big Pharma but they love Little Pharma, Big Pharma’s younger sibling who grew up without any adult supervision.

Oh yeah- and my problem is usually figuring out when I’ve given people more than enough time to learn. Because I assume people must want to learn more when they don’t understand something!

I realized I never actually said my initial point which is that also one of my biggest struggles is being convinced I just need to explain something better to people who have proven time and again they are choosing to not hear me or listen, and having to learn to walk away. I’m glad I don’t use AI

I have a one year old who is learning to communicate for the first time new words every day. This weekend he started signing please and rest and saying more when he signs it and it is everything. And people just want to outsource the best thing about being alive?

It’s hard to understand why people what to disconnect from one of the most core things that makes us… real? Not human, not alive… but makes it… matter? Mean something? Makes us exist, collectively. Communication is one of our deepest drives. We talk to inanimate objects and pets and babies.
