4/5 Their most famous legend? The great 12th-century warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune was secretly trained in swordsmanship by Sōjōbō, the king of all Tengu, on Mount Kurama.
Even samurai had things to learn from them!

3/5 For centuries, Tengu were seen as omens of war and punishers of the proud : especially corrupt Buddhist monks, who they'd drag into the mountains and drive mad. 🏔️

2/5 They come in two forms:
🔴 The Dai-Tengu: humanoid, with a long red nose, wings, dressed like a mountain monk.
🐦 The Ko-Tengu: more bird-like, with a beak, sharp talons, and feathers.
Same spirit, very different vibes.

In Japanese folklore, Tengu are ancient supernatural beings living deep in mountains and forests. Half-human, half-bird, they exist somewhere between gods and demons.
