How to Triumph Like a Girl BY ADA LIMΓN I like the lady horses best, how they make it all look easy, like running 40 miles per hour is as fun as taking a nap, or grass. I like their lady horse swagger, after winning. Ears up, girls, ears up! But mainly, let's be honest, I like that they're ladies. As if this big dangerous animal is also a part of me, that somewhere inside the delicate skin of my body, there pumps an 8-pound female horse heart, giant with power, heavy with blood. Don't you want to believe it? Don't you want to lift my shirt and see the huge beating genius machine that thinks, no, it knows, it's going to come in first.
Chinese New Year of the Fire Horse commences today. Here's a π₯horse poem, How to Triumph like a Girl, by Ada Limon. www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/149814...

Latest review of my 2026 reading...

Followed later by a turn through Brincliffe Edge Woods on the lookout for early birds and late fungi.
The birds seem to have woken up to February
Redwings, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Jay and a whole host of different tits .. no photos. The fungi were easier to snap though...
A view of the Porter Brook from a little stone footbridge. The brook is quite full and there are a few white water eddies
A vibrant green mossy wall to the side of the path
A section of wall where a crevice has opened up between the stones. Moss and ivy are growing there too.
Took a little walk today along the ominously called Stalker Walk

In my experience so far, it feels quite Instagram-like. It is very focussed on Palestine, Sudan and Congo. While that is hugely important (and really why I joined) I hope it will broaden as a platform.
Mind you I've already had my share of 'Hey handsome' dms... Some things never change. π
'Needless?'
Human rights laws are needed more than ever at the moment.
About time. Englandβs FA should stop doing FA and make a stand in support of the dead, injured and oppressed in the USA. Boycott the World Cup!! Unless it takes place in Canada and Mexico only.
I drove through the village of Toadhole Furnace on Sunday.
It felt noteworthy at the time.
Cats are traditionally very hard to crack comedically.
A copy of the book Understorey by Anna Chapman Parker lying on my dining table. A book mark protrudes from the top.
A line drawing in black ink on paper of a sprig of sage. It comprises seven leaves, some curling over. Coincidentally today someone on Instagram (@asalasyeon) challenged their followers to spend three minutes drawing something. I accepted their invitation.
The line drawing lies on a cluster table next to the actual sprig of sage.
Currently reading Understorey but Anna Chapman Parker.
The author is an artist and in the book she spends 'A Year Among The Weeds' selling to capture the essence of the wild plants which she comes across in beautiful line drawings.
I felt inspired!
A spirit of sage from my garden.

A bowl of creamy mushroom soup with a garnish of parsley, next to a plate with 4 slices of toast. You wouldn't know from looking, but the toast is from a light rye and caraway seed loaf I made yesterday.
Closer picture of the bowl of soup. The soup is a rock browny grey and slightly textured. There is oat cream in an amorphous swirl floating on the top, and there's that garnish of parsley again.
Had a big bag of flat mushrooms from @beaniessheff.bsky.social ...
