sorry correcting myself - likely female as the tail is basically non visible and the plastron looks pretty flat. at least in musk turtles, the plastron is significantly concave in males to accommodate breeding (eastern musk turtle, male on the left, female on the right)

looks like an old man mud turtle :) they have such a cool hinged plastron. good think you spotted him before he went in the drain!!
