Why you should stop and taste the pi On Ο€-day, one mathematician explores our fascination with pi and asks why we obsessively compute its digits

Happy pi day (3.14 in the US) to all who celebrate.

If today doesn't seem different, it's because every day is "Friday the 13th" while Donald Trump is in office.

Today is Young Carers Action Day.

I know just how challenging it can be to take on caring responsibilities so young, and I’m always struck by the way young carers keep going, when so much is asked of them.

They deserve far more support, we're fighting to make sure they get it.

Five years on, the right’s Covid narrative has been turbo-charged into the mainstream | Laura Spinney Before the next outbreak, we need a serious conversation about how to cope – but first, the more strident, misguided voices must pipe down, says author Laura Spinney

Covid, 5 years on:
"The mRNA vaccines prevented millions of deaths. [...] Masks worked. And as with every pandemic in recent history, subsequent reviews have found that the advice to go early and hard with containment was correct."

It's no longer OK for you to sit in the house of Lords because your dad did.
But if your mate put you there?
That's fine.
Neither of these really feel like democracy to me.

Can anyone explain to me what the Blue Labour justification for this is? Who out there will vote Labour because Mahmood prevented a Sudanese Chevening Scholar? And to be honest, why won’t the PM simply overrule her?

A state visit from our King would be seen as yet another huge diplomatic coup for President Trump, so it should not be given to someone who repeatedly insults and damages our country.

This magnificent statue of Methodism founder John Wesley outside the New Room in Broadmead was made in 1932 by sculptor Arthur George Walker.
At the time there was no statue of Wesley in Bristol and the initial plan was to depict the preacher standing alone.

Absolutely insupportable. Labour have a massive majority. It’s a hugely popular issue. To fail to act would be a dereliction of historic proportions, and utterly inexplicable.
