So please stop. Stop blaming women. It's not our fault that we are dying and becoming disabled due to birth complications. If men were the ones delivering babies either mankind would have been extinct long ago, or perinatal health would be the top priority for policy makers. /End

And then because inductions lead to complex/ instrumental births, the maternal and child outcomes are worse. But then, we didn't offer any better choices. Because no one researches them, and because healthcare systems are underfunded and led by people who don't birth children themselves. /4

Then, although we know these options are not great, we keep offering them/ imposing them to women. We then get higher rates of cesaereans (because we have nothing better to offer) and we blame women for being fat and for waiting to have children until they are financially stable. /3

Although there is an increased risk of stillbirth and pre-eclampsia at term and post-term in women over 40, the reasons for this are unknown. Despite this, maternal health is so underrated that suboptimal options are still offered to pregnant women, such as inductions and elective caesareans. /2

@theguardian.com please do better at reporting science. Causation is NOT an association. High rates of caesareans and complex births are not caused by women's obesity and old age. They are associated with and there is an awful lot of confounding factors here. /1

So this is due to Obesity and old age? - how about a consistent lack of individualised perinatal care, years of underfunding for maternal services and staff burnout due to poor working conditions? That would put the blame on the government and not on women, which is undesirable?
