literally all of yesterday i kept thinking it was friday and then today got wiped out by Migraine Blast from the universe so that was my advance warning that friday is cancelled this week for scheduling reasons i guess

from actually playing, mostly what’s at the forefront of your mind is not running out of bow on the long notes, making sure the long notes SOUND good when they’re exposed, not rushing, and expressing emotion through phrasing+volume. and whenever it gets to a tricky part there’s more intense focus.

i know that!’ and non musical readers might just nod along and if you throw in any from type 1 classically trained musician readers would know what you meant immediately but i have no idea what non-music people would think besides ‘ooh fancy’. group 2 also is like…very specific things.

regular adjectives that would probably come to mind for any listener who was just trying to describe the music (emotional, melancholy, mournful). you could absolutely get away with just sticking to type 3; if you wanted to be fancy you could throw in a couple from 2 and musician readers would go ‘oh

for sad: there’s actual fancy italian music terms that get put on the sheet music by the composer to indicate how the music should be played (legato, espressivo, sostenuto, lacrimoso), there’s the technical terms for what you’re doing (slurring, vibrato, intensity, phrasing) and then there’s the

like, what happens when you’re playing one? or how the sound of the instrument works? I can explain either of these (sources: 17 years of playing cello 1.5 of playing violin)

someone finally caught (or at least finally mentioned) my very stupid pun on Isaac Newton in river dredging fic. i am Pleased.

The best bit of advice I've ever heard on the whole originality thing was "everything's been done before, but no one is ever going to do it like how YOU do it. So do it and show people how you would do it." And tbh that sticks in my head to this day whenever I think my concepts sound derivative.

i am fairly certain that literally everyone who is currently reading my fic has something they would prefer to see updated sooner than the namivivi gods au. however!! i am the one with the keyboard and the mad cackle!!!

it’s not that i think ‘deadly serious mob enforcer’ is less of an Assumed Persona than ‘silly clown trying to make a sick kid laugh’ it’s simply that i’m committed to BOTH of them. yknow.

woman who WOULD die for her teenage niece as full of hate as a wet cat at a dog show, but who can also just scruff said niece up in the air via magic anytime she wants, and therefore doesn’t need to be nice or convincing to get her to do anything.

the thing i’m very excited about for #90sTVAU is that Cora is now Law’s caretaker and in the spirit of canon, she sucks and is bad at it. not in the ‘loving but incompetent’ way. grown ass woman completely unprepared to be emotionally gentle with an absolutely furious teenager.

eventually she’s going to turn a third corner into ‘damn i guess this is kind of unethical to practice in the absence of rigorous studies on efficiency’ because otherwise her parents will be disappointed in her but she can go a little mad with power in the middle. as a treat.

in #90sTvAU i know that at some point teenage witch law is going to turn a corner from ‘fucking magic fucking up my plans to get into med school’ to ‘you mean i can use MAGIC to MANIPULATE FLESH’ and have to sit through more than one Avoid Necromancy Please talk. with slides.

the other current mulling-over i’ve been doing for the #90sTVAU (…is this how tagging works…) is what to do with the straw hats. because obviously they’re the scooby gang to Luffy’s Buffy.

but I’m trying to figure out if that’s going to manifest as them just perpetually hanging out in the library or if I give them shit to do. and of the shit to do, I can think of three immediately appealing options:

will-they won’t-they with the reveal where we see Law and Luffy’s nonsense playing out simultaneously and they just keep missing each other and the mid-season twist is when it finally all comes crashing together (at the worst possible moment, of course)

and i HAD been thinking about following up the mid-season twist reveal of Luffy’s Slayer situation with a flashback compilation of all the insane magic stuff that’s been just out of frame. but it’s ALMOST funnier if i go full identity shenanigans from the beginning.

mulling over the tv show au and looking at my spreadsheet to map out A and B plots and ruminating. for all that I keep talking about how this is ‘what if Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Buffy the Vampire Slayer dated.’ I don’t give Luffy’s side of this AU nearly enough to do.

it’s fun being co-writers with someone who has a radically different process than you do because you then get to stare at each other in mutual baffled fascination. you really live like this?
