Archaeologist of the Medieval Near East. Pretty keen on books and my dog. Teaches at the University of Calgary - but posts are my own. Committed to respecting people for who they are. Spends a lot of time thinking about a field in Türkiye.

Honestly wish I could make world leaders take a bloody history class. I’m a medieval Middle East specialist and even I could have explained the ramifications.

Where is the so-called humanitarian purpose in attacking civilians who are already victims of a blood-thirsty regime? A missile struck a girls’ school earlier today, killing at least 80 people. Many more unnecessary casualties are to be expected. Stop the hemorrhage already!
The news this morning is unbelievable and my god I am worried for friends in Iran.
This piece of yours…I keep going back to it. Now rewatching Twin Peaks. And it is almost a visceral experience.
Damn right. So many men need to stay in their lane and worry about themselves.

Screenshot of a text conversation on a dark mode background. The first text bubble reads "Hey, I'm not dead yet," followed by "How is everything??," and "I know you can't say much" in purple bubbles. The subsequent bubbles are gray: "I don't care how much I can say," "But there's not much to say," "Been living in the worst scary movie since January 8," "I was running knowing I'm about to get shot any second," and finally "People falling around me."
