#LunarEclipse FAQ:
Q: Is it safe to look at?
A: Absolutely! Unlike a solar eclipse, there's no UNsafe time to look at a lunar eclipse.
Q: Do I need a telescope?
A: Nope! Best view is with naked eye. Just look up!
Q: Does the eclipse portend terror & doom?
A: Not at all! The news has that covered.

Part of functional literacy is being able to understand, on your own, the concept that the writer is writing for a specific audience. That the thing has a specific context.
Like, an article about dog grooming is addressed to dog owners. It does not need to include cat grooming.

But when the AI help is being used to replace the iterative processes that result in actual creation, my sympathy erodes because at a certain point you are robbing yourself of the experience of making something. And lying to the audience, because they react to authentic experience.

Keep saying "slop" in reference to AI.
At every opportunity.
The techbros are listening, and this word makes them so sad on the inside that they'll hoist themselves on their own Streisand Effect petard.

it's kinda hard to see, but all the ammo in the game can be examined- most of the text is safety instructions, but they all have some advertising copy too. i appreciate how the shotgun ammo specifically mentions how it's effective for killing monsters. those steel boys have come a long way since '98

It seems like the majority of people are just looking at the headline and interpreting this as another "whoops! user data got leaked! our bad!"
What was actually exposed was code used in Persona's software. Code showing that this company is doing A LOT MORE THAN CHECKING YOUR AGE.

Great blue heron with blue and gray feathers stands on the shore of a stream amongst the dull colors of winter.
I almost walked past this great blue heron. It blends into the background so well in winter.

Side view of a moth with brown forewings that have a broad, looping vibrant green pattern across them
Cosmodes elegans - Green-blotched Moth
These lovely moths are relatively frequent visitors to our Perth Hills garden but it’s lovely to see them every time!
These moths are native to Australia and can be seen in most areas except the NT.

Gut Instincts: A profile of Nobel laureate Barry Marshall | Penn State University
Barry Marshall likes quotes. Over a bacon and eggs breakfast at the Nittany Lion Inn on a frigid December morning, he peppers the conversation with passages that have inspired him. Not surprisingly (M...
Maybe you know the story of Dr. Barry Marshall, who intentionally infected himself with Helicobacter pylori, developed gastritis, peptic ulcers & bad breath.
He proved that ulcers are caused by bacteria in 1984, received a Nobel Prize (with Warren) in 2005.
But there's a much deeper history!

Folklore is so much a part of our collective culture that it cannot help but spill out everywhere. It tumbles out of pub signs, street names, graffiti spat from spray cans. Manifests as wondrous acts of knitting. It is an essential element of us. – Dr. M. Benn #FolkloreSunday

This video also gets into a wild habit I see people do:
When billionaires & their nepo babies wreck the laws, space, cars, social media, etc, we know how to get mad about it.
But when they mess up at raising food... people make excuses for them? "Oh farming is so hard, they couldn't have known."
