According to Member Scholar Daniel Farber of @ucberkeleylaw.bsky.social, fossil fuel companies want “weak regulations, but they want regulations.” He said repealing the finding “does take some of the wind out of their sails."

On Friday PJM filed for a two year extension of the price collar, which will (partially) shield ratepayers from spiking capacity prices in the region (without the collar the 27/28 BRA would have been 60ish% higher than the already record high price).
This did not happen in a vacuum.

Yes, in every generation, here in the US. WWI and WWII; Cold War threat of nuclear war; Jim Crow; the early-70s era of Vietnam war + regular airplane hijackings + more; the entire pre-1970s era when women weren’t allowed to have their own credit & were systematically excluded from most professions.
We asked our policy team to weigh in on the State of the Union – the longest in US history. Here are their key takeaways:

Overall take: The address was disjointed, grievance-driven, and narcissistic. When a real problem was raised, it was only as an excuse to justify more violence and domination. Meanwhile, it’s getting harder and harder for most of us to survive in the United States.
Opposition targeted: There was little cross-party support during SOTU 2026. Some Democratic representatives protested that Trump’s government has killed Americans, and others (including their guests) were forcibly removed.
🌐 Foreign Policy: Trump’s strategy is straight from the ‘80s and the racist, violent War on Drugs, only applied internationally. Think: threats over diplomacy and chaos over cooperation.
On the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles: More (thinly) veiled racist threats. Trump says, “We’ll do a good job there,” and he has established a task force to “ensure that Los Angeles will be ‘safe.’” We’ve already seen what authoritarians mean when they say “safe.”
Sanctuary cities: Trump also affirmed that the terrifying immigration enforcement we’ve seen will continue in sanctuary cities and blue states, especially cities with large Black populations like Memphis, New Orleans, and Minneapolis. We can’t look away.
Immigration & ICE: Trump doubled down on white supremacist ideology, singling out Somali immigrants in Minnesota as “pirates” and blaming them for housing shortages and inflation. There are hardly any words for this racism. Well, here’s one: Gross.
💡 Data Centers & Electricity: Trump is right. Data centers use more energy than our “old grid can handle.” He announced a “ratepayer protection pledge,” forcing tech to power itself. Unfortunately, the details are vague, and this doesn’t solve the issue of polluting tech that few Americans want.
📈 Economy & Inflation: After some lies about inflation going down, Trump admits that the government won’t be paying out refunds on tariffs to customers or companies. So where’s that money going? It’s unclear.
The SOTU fell broadly into three parts: economy, immigration, and foreign policy. Per usual, his speech was heavy on the word count and light on facts — very much in line with the authoritarian style of government we’re already witnessing.
